What is your background briefly?
I come from a Science background at University but moved into my passion which is business in my early 20’s. Initially I worked in a couple of sales and sales management roles before starting, running and selling a number of companies in the financial services sector and automotive. I have been lucky enough to travel the world in my early career and whilst visiting many museums and galleries though out the UK and Europe the history and in particular painted history really changed the way I viewed art and the way I viewed the world. More recently in 2012 I started another financial services company, this time moving to China with our very young family where we created the countries first car warranty programs specifically targeting the burgeoning used car industry. Again as fortune would have it we travelled extensively for business and along the way I studied Chinese language and culture. The doors opened to return to Australia in 2017 with an investor group to assist with a growing property development group and to kick start ArtChain Global.
Does it seem like a logical background to what you do now?
For me it is like the perfect sized glove. I love technical things, situations and data – Obviously what initially took me down the scientific pathway. Everything to me needs to make sense, it needs to be able to be detailed in minute fashion and I need to be able to articulate that so others completely understand. I have a passion for solving problems, sometimes (quite often) they are problems that people or businesses didn’t know that they even had until highlighted. I absolutely love dealing with people, presenting ideas, concepts and enlightening folks to something that might just change the way they do business or live their lives. On top of that I have been enthralled with the art industry for nearly 20 years, I have artists in the family but unfortunately the skills didn’t quite make it to me. Piecing this together: Blockchain being a game changer for the art industry in more and more ways than we first thought, we can solve long term problems, we can improve the system and experience, we can add value…. I can’t think of anything better to be doing right now!
1 min pitch for what you are doing now?
ArtChain Global is tackling head on some long term industry issues in the art world. We are using the latest in technology and working closely with our partners Swinburne Uni to integrate this into an industry that is essentially thousands of years old.
Personally, as one of the founders, I am helping to set up the systems, the procedures, fund raising, legals, accounting and management functions. We are working through our planning and forecasting scenarios and at present building out two marketing modes: 1) To the crypto and investor community and 2) Beginning to get the message out to the art community. Ultimately the art world is where our clients will be, so we are working at all levels, from Galleries and Auction houses through to contemporary artists, up and coming and street artists.
At present I have just started on our speaking/road show tour. We’ve spoken in a couple of countries with numerous more stops to make over the next 4-6 weeks.
Why did you get involved with this ICO?
I became involved at the very beginning when we were discussing the concept of IoT technology tracking artworks as they were shipped. We thought that this would be a natural home for blockchain and the concept continued to grow from there. There wasn’t a choice after that… this is something that simply HAS to be done!
Why do you think it is such a powerful idea?
The industry has been crying out for help for many years. The problems we can solve with blockchain and associated technology have been around for hundreds of years without a rock solid solution. Blockchain is an opportunity and someone needs to be first or at least one of the first to connect the dots. The more we speak with people inside the art ecosystem about what is coming, the more excited we get, we are seeing real help, real value add and along the way we are going to be able to change people’s lives for the better.
