The Analytics Institute, the Professional Body for Data Analytics and Data Science in Ireland has officially launched a Munster Chapter at City Hall in Cork yesterday with over 150 representatives from across the region coming together. This Chapter has been established to provide support for the growing analytics and emerging technologies sectors in the region.
Lorcan Malone, Chief Executive of the Analytics Institute said;
“We are delighted to be supporting the thriving Analytics and AI sector in Munster. The region is ideally placed to be a centre of growth for the industry. It is vital that the Government, Industry and Academia work together to maximise the opportunity this sector presents for sustainable economic growth and jobs in the region.
Today the Analytics Institute, along with leading experts from the analytics sector, discussed the potential for industry growth in emerging technologies in Munster and what needs to be done to ensure this growth happens. This is an exciting time for the sector and it is great to get all these experts together to discuss the future of analytics in the region.”
The Analytics Institute was established in 2016 as a Membership Body for the data analytics and data science sector. Currently, the organisation has over 90 member organisations, including many of the world’s leading technology companies, such as Microsoft, IBM and Google.
Commenting on the launch, Eoin O’Reilly, Partner and Head of Data Analytics and Emerging Technology at EY Ireland, said:
“The launch of the Munster chapter of the Analytics Institute is fantastic news for the region. Data is rewriting the future of business in Ireland, across sectors, geographies and functions, so it’s vital that we have the infrastructure in place all over the country that provides businesses with the necessary resources and expertise as emerging technologies continue to gain pace.
At EY, our clients in Munster are increasingly turning to our data analytics and emerging technology team to develop solutions that help their businesses work better, faster and smarter. We look forward to working with our colleagues at the Analytics Institute over the years to come and continuing our partnership.”
Caroline O’Driscoll, Partner at Deloitte and Co-founder of the ‘I Wish’ programme, which aims to encourage women to get involved in STEM, added;
“Data is a powerful tool, and many companies, from traditional tech to non-tech, recognise the strategic value and insight that data brings with the potential to unlock economic value by monetising further. I would like to congratulate the Analytics Institute on launching the Munster branch, recognising the importance of, and supporting the thriving analytics sector in the region. The technology sector supports almost 30,000 jobs in the region and data science and analytics plays a strong role in that.
However, the international debate on the use of data and data, leaders need to act responsibly as we develop data tools into the future. We see evidence of gender biases for example built into datasets in AI, so it is important that we all understand how data is used and the impact it has. The role of the Analytics Institute as a thought leader ensures that Ireland remains at the forefront of this thought leadership.”
The Institute works with Government, Academia and the Corporate Business Sectors to promote cooperation, research and employment growth in the Data Analytics and Data Science sectors. The Analytics Institute is an organisation where data analytics organisations can collaborate through CPD events, Masterclasses, Workshops and Conferences. The Institute also offers Professional Certification programmes for industry professionals.
