Access Earth winning team in Enactus Ireland competition

You can catch the Access Earth team at the EnterConf @EnterConfHQ #EnterConf in Belfast June 18th / 19th.

Access Earth is a platform that allows users find reliable and up-to-date accessibility information about places and businesses. Anyone can contribute to the website and rate their experience based on how the location was set up to suit wheelchair users or someone with a physical disability.

Aoife O’Brien, who has just finished her 2nd year of a BBA Marketing degree at Maynooth University, along with team mates from Enactus Maynooth University, have developed Access Earth.

Enactus, is a community of students, committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better more sustainable world.

The project was originally developed by Matthew McCann, who relies on a walking aid. He developed the idea following his own negative experience with accessibility.Matthew came to us with the idea so we created a business plan and a revenue model.

Access Earth entered into the Enactus Ireland National competition, which took place on 28 May. The national competition consisted of 7 3 level institutions around Ireland, all of whom had the aim of becoming national champions. Enactus Maynooth were crowned champions on the day, and will now go on to represent Ireland in the Enactus World Cup, taking place in Johannesburg this coming October, with Access Earth.

The next step for the development of Access Earth is to incorporate a booking system, marrying the needs of those with accessibility issues with the services of hotels, restaurants, and entertainment sites that can adequately cater for them.
