Mindtrek 2018 – Finland’s Leading International Technology Conference

Next week, I will embark on an exciting trip to Tampere, Finland, to attend one of the most innovative and arguably the most valuable conferences in the Nordics. Mindtrek is an international technology conference organized annually in the beautiful city of Tampere, Finland that offers a horizontal view into the field of future technology. In 2018, Mindtrek will again be held in Tampere, Finland on 10th-11th of October – already for the 22nd time!

Mindtrek is all about networking and exchanging ideas with people who come from different backgrounds and who have different areas of expertise. Mindtrek brings together companies and organizations, representatives of the public sector, the academic world, students, rising start-ups, and a wide range of experts and decision-makers from various sectors of technology. Mindtrek consists of around 70 different sessions that cover topics such as open source, open data, smart city, and eHealth solutions, virtual reality, IoT, AI, educational technologies and more. Mindtrek is an excellent platform to network beyond industry boundaries, and to learn about current and rising topics in the field of future technologies and get inspired.

Mindtrek has 5 themed main “tracks” that we call events going on simultaneously during the whole 2-days. The main events are Open World, Smart City Event Tampere, eHealth, Immersive Tech and EdTech. Academic Mindtrek conference is also organized annually as a part of Mindtrek. At Mindtrek, you are able to follow along one event that hits your field spot on or mix and match different sessions from different events based on your personal points of interest. The main idea of Mindtrek is to bring about a collision between all fields of technology and enable people and businesses to learn, meet and connect.

Open World:

Open Source | Open Data | Openness in Business | Future of Open Source

This event is for those interested in Open Source, Open Data or Open APIs who believe in sharing information so that others can modify it for alternatives uses or improve it. Open World brings together people from the private and public sectors to show us how we can all benefit from openness.

Smart City:

AI & Analytics | Sharing Cities | Smart Urban Planning | Blockchain | Smart Mobility | 5G

Tampere is one of Finland’s major urban, economic and cultural hubs, known for its courage in city development, its easy-going atmosphere and high quality of living. The City is functioning more and more as a platform for joint smart city development. It creates possibilities for companies, universities and research organizations to co-create new services and solutions together with the citizens in smart city ecosystems.

The Smart City Event by the City of Tampere has become a staple at the Mindtrek conference, and this year, it focuses on themes such as Smart Mobility, AI & Analytics, Blockchain, Smart Building, and Circular Economy. We also want to raise an important question: “How could we all join forces to improve our living environment and business opportunities?”

Mindtrek 2018 eHealth Event will take the participants to a new level by introducing fresh views on the future of healthcare. In order to improve the quality of health care services, to increase the independence of the patient, and to curb expense growth, service chains and services provided in the home environment have become the scope of interest.

Immersive Tech:

By bringing together virtual, augmented and mixed reality, Mindtrek creates an all-encompassing experience, during which you can immerse yourself in what the big things and topics in the field are right now, and what the next big breakouts will be in the future. The use of immersive technology can improve our lives in various areas such as our jobs, education, and entertainment, to name a few. This year Immersive Tech will also dive into the world of Space.

Part of the Future Education Forum 2018 agenda

The EdTech-track in Mindtrek is organized in cooperation with the Future Education Forum. The forum is bringing Chinese educators that are interested in the Finnish education system to Tampere to learn and hear how Finland is utilizing the newest technological developments in education combined with the Finnish pedagogical approach.

In the event itself we will be seeing the hottest Finnish EdTech startups as well as already well known operatives. The EdTech-track will have a dedicated exhibition area for companies to present their solutions in detail to the Finnish-Chinese audience.

Mindtrek EdTech 2018 is partnering with the Finnish Education Learning and Development Centre and the City of Tampere.

Academic Mindtrek:
