Former World Rally Championship co-driver Killian Duffy has launched a customisable mobile application platform designed to provide professional-grade live streaming and independent digital infrastructure for sports clubs and content creators. Developed in partnership with Ross Kernan of RKM Software, the project represents a €200,000 self-funded investment.
The platform was engineered to allow organisations and independent creators to build, scale, and monetise their own sustainable brands away from the technical friction and data-retention limits of mainstream social networks.
Duffy, a secondary school teacher from Mayo who left education in 2009 to pursue a professional motorsport career, won multiple rallies in the Middle East and competed at World Championship level. In 2010, he founded On The Pace Note, which became a major digital rally coverage provider in Ireland and the UK, expanding its reach to 82,000 Facebook followers and 3,500 paid subscribers.
Despite the commercial footprint, the operational constraints of third-party social platforms – specifically the restriction to a single simultaneous livestream and a policy that deletes video assets after 30 days – prompted the development of an independent infrastructure.
“Relying on third-party networks meant operating within restrictive algorithms and external data policies,” explained Killian Duffy, Founder of On The Pace Note.
“When a platform deletes video content after 30 days, a creator or a club loses their historical archive and their hard-earned media equity. We built this platform to give data ownership back to creators and sporting bodies, allowing them to harness a sustainable platform of their own to scale their brands. By removing the requirement for fragmented third-party software and large production crews, the operational cost of broadcasting is reduced by up to 90%.”
The platform utilises white-label architecture, enabling individual sporting bodies, such as GAA or rugby clubs, as well as digital media creators, to deploy bespoke, branded applications on iOS and Android. The software simplifies the broadcasting workflow so that a single operator can manage a multi-camera or multi-stage stream, making local fixtures or niche entertainment content accessible to a global audience via a secure digital portal.
“In a sporting context, this allows organisations to broadcast matches at any competitive level, maintaining a direct digital link with international supporters and diaspora communities without requiring commercial broadcast contracts. In the same way, content creators can easily reach their target audience at any time,” Duffy continued.
To support the high-bandwidth requirements of live sports, the platform bypasses cross-platform development frameworks in favour of fully native iOS applications built in Swift, and Android applications built in Kotlin. The technical backend is hosted on enterprise-grade AWS EC2 Linux instances, running PHP 8.4 and the Laravel framework, integrated with an Inertia.js frontend layer for a fast, Single Page Application user experience.
Broadcast delivery is managed via Amazon Interactive Video Service for ultra-low latency, alongside AWS MediaConvert for multi-quality video transcoding. Global content delivery is routed through Amazon CloudFront to prevent regional buffering, while historical archiving is sustained indefinitely via Amazon S3 storage.
Beyond video transmission, the white-label application operates as a centralised digital administration hub. It integrates a secure Stripe payment gateway featuring daily data exports, establishing immediate cash flow for clubs and creators managing digital subscriptions, virtual ticketing, club lotteries, membership renewals, or merchandising.
According to Duffy, the direct integration removes payment processing delays, allowing users to convert their media output into immediate working capital. In addition, the permanent storage structure ensures a sports club, for instance, can retain historical footage of all athletes from their underage debuts through to senior levels, and beyond.
The platform is fully operational, with the On The Pace Note flagship application currently live and delivering streams to motorsport fans. Duffy is currently finalising the architecture for a Phase 2 rollout, which will integrate automated AI camera tracking directly into the platform to eliminate manual filming requirements.
