Emily Ross will be sharing her insights at the eCommerce Summit in Tralee, October 2nd and 3rd, 2019
1 min pitch for what you are doing now?
Leading Inkvine, a consultancy firm specialising in strategic marketing for deep tech firms. We work with a select number of clients to help them grow and scale. Our current client set includes leaders in medtech, fintech, cybersecurity, telematics and AI. I’m also a co-founder of the not-for-profit SportsTech Ireland, which helps to position Ireland as a leading destination for sports technology and innovation. I’m also a supporter of LIFT Ireland, which is helping to shape the leaders of tomorrow.
the power of e-wom, Emily Ross, eCommerce Summit
How was the last year, what worked well, what didn’t move as quickly as you would have liked?
There’s not enough time! 2019 has been an incredible year for Inkvine. We’ve taken on some of our biggest clients and projects to date. We haven’t had a chance to celebrate our third year in business. We made the decision to only work with clients that shared our values, and we’ve turned away work, in order to concentrate on what we’re best at. I would have liked to have more time to reflect on the progress we’ve made. Also, we’ve made some beautiful collateral for our clients this year, and we’ve done nothing at all for ourselves.
What are your plans for the future?
We’re very deliberately not scaling. If we grew, and took on more staff, we could take on more clients. All we want to do is solve complex problems for clients that share our values. We’re not an agency, so it’s not about long term retainers. We are focussing on deep tech, and projects that have a start, middle and end. And we have our Mary Poppins Protocol. We only stay for as long as we’re needed.

What will you be talking about at this event?
I believe I’ll be talking about the power of e-wom (electronic word of mouth). Especially the power of online reviews. Human beings are very predictable. We care and listen to the opinions of others, and reviews are incredibly influential. I’ll be doing a deep dive into buyer behaviour in relation to product reviews and their authenticity.

eCommerce Summit, Tralee, October 2nd, 3rd, 2019
What inspired you to attend it?
I’m really inspired by work life balance. Our teams all work remote. We have people in Cork, Dublin, Limerick and Berlin! I lived in Dublin for 16 years, and my quality of life is immeasurably better living outside of Dublin. Anything that showcases regional expertise and capability is worth supporting. Also Kerry is one of the most beautiful places on the planet, who wouldn’t want to go there?
Which influencers and websites do you follow to keep up to date with the latest developments?
Contagious.com (newsletter strategic and creative intelligence for global market trends)
April Dunford – A positioning genius, author of ‘Obviously Awesome’ I had the pleasure of dinner with April recently when she spoke at Learn Inbound.
Alistair Croll – Author of the Lean Startup, and an all round fountain of insight. I’ll be speaking at a Scaletech, a conference he’s facilitating Toronto later this month.
Colin Lewis – (founder of DMX) one of the smartest marketing people I’ve ever met. Hands down.
How can people find out more about what you are working on?
Probably best to follow me on Twitter @emilyjaneross
Rowing is a lot like life. Some days are full of pain and others are pure joy.
This morning on the water the lyrics that fit best (for both rowing and life) were from Ben Howard
