5G And Its Impact on Mobile App Development

By Leon Bennett

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding the impact of 5G technology for all the right reasons. It’s no surprise the global tech-driven industry is anticipating the introduction of 5G technology as the world is shifting towards a digital revolution. Users have become so used to innovation and accessibility that speed is now considered a powerful force that drives the tech revolution.

4G technology has left us all with more than just a satisfying experience that provided us with fast browsing speed, online gaming, mobile phone connectivity, high- definition video streaming, and smooth audio and video calls. It’s only fair to expect dynamic experiences from 5G network technology.

Before we move on to the benefits and impact of 5G technology, let’s define it first.

What is 5G Technology?

Many people believe that 5G is an upgraded version of 4G. Instead, it is a completely different network infrastructure. 5G has the power to transform how mobile networks connect and function. With speed being the biggest ‘it’ factor, the 5G network provides a super-fast and reliable data-sharing experience with speed ten times faster than existing technology. With stronger mobile connectivity, high-speed data transfer, immersive AR, and a rise in cloud-based applications, 5G technology is all set to revolutionize the networking aspect of the technological landscape.

Benefits of 5G

Mobile developers are always looking for innovation to edge towards a digitized landscape. But how beneficial is 5G to mobile applications and development?

We all know how fast our lives changed since the introduction of 4G networks. It greatly improved a user’s smartphone experience by improving the data-sharing speed. While 3G technology runs at 2 Mbps, 4G technology improved to a whopping 20 Mbps, and 5G technology is tested to hit up to 50 Mbps or higher. This means a faster browsing speed, high definition 4K video streaming, and ultra-fast file sharing, but speeds the only benefit of 5G technology?

The speed of 5G completely depends on its infrastructure regardless of how populated the area is. 5G has two exceptional advantages over the previous networks, which have the potential to transform mobile development and mobile experiences.

Low Latency

When mobile networks are being used in real-time to make critical decisions, delays are a source of deadly issues. 5G networks have an almost zero latency, which allows you to carry out critical decision making and machine operations without any time delays. 4G technology, on average, currently have a latency of 50-55 millisecond, and 5G technology uses time slicing and cuts it down to 1 millisecond, eliminating any possibility of delays and interference. Mobile phone users would have a faster and better smartphone experience compared to the previous networks due to low latency.

Higher Connection Density

Connection density matters a lot when you’re using your smartphone is a crowded place. Mobile app developers have continuously tried to find loopholes to strengthen mobile connectivity, but connection density is a huge issue globally. 4G technology currently supports around 2000 devices every .40 miles; on average, the number increases as the number of connected devices increase. 5G technology, on the other hand, plays a huge role in supporting a higher number of connected devices in the same radius.

At a time, the 5G network is expected to support up to a million devices, which are a huge plus point for mobile app developers.

5G Technology and Mobile Apps

With the introduction of 5G technology, a huge change is surely expected with the functionality and integration of mobile apps. 5G technology will transform the way people and smartphones connect. With the endless possibilities brought by 3G and 4G, it’s fair to expect a complete transformation of mobile app development through 5G technology. Not only would this technology boost the innovation and creativity used in mobile app development, but it would completely transform the mobile app market in the years to come.

Let’s look at some ways 5G technology would impact mobile app development.

Improved User Experiences

because of 5G, developers have the freedom to create exceptional user experiences by benefiting from low latency, high-speed connectivity, faster internet browsing, and real-time data sharing. 5G technology enables the user to stay connected on the go relying on exceptional speed and connectivity. The availability of this technology enables the developer to produce highly-responsive apps.

Easy Integration

The mobile app market will notice a significant increase in the number of cloud-based applications. 5G allows the developer to effectively integrate multiple technologies into apps without increasing the complexity of the app. Using the cloud as the data center of the app will transform when and how apps can be used. Imagine having high connectivity, ultra-fast speed, and low latency while accessing data on the cloud. Time and speed are no longer considered as constraints in mobile app development, thanks to 5G.

Greater Bandwidth

The chance to experience immersive AR and VR finally seems achievable because of 5G. Media-oriented experiences such as gaming and video applications allow developers to experiment freely. With the introduction of 5G technology, it’s expected that mobile app developers would create realistic and immersive user experiences with the first opportunity they get.

When creating an app as responsive as a gaming or video app, it’s important to maintain a low buffering time. 5G technology would target faster loading and downloading speed to reduce latency when users are streaming high definition videos, graphics, or AR/VR on their smartphones.

High-Speed IoT

Usually, the Internet of Things (IoT) devices don’t need high-speed internet to function effectively, but the infrastructure of the 5G network is built specifically for IoT devices. Integrating 5G technology with narrowband IoT devices would create more opportunities for excellent connectivity and improved latency.

The release of 5G network technology is surely going to have a major positive impact on mobile application development. Not only will users experience increased performance and enhanced productivity, but mobile app developers are free to build flexible high responsive apps more easily. 5G and mobile applications are ready to revolutionize mobile app development in the current technological landscape.
