Ireland’s leading cybersecurity event – Zero Day Con – will today hear how the number of cyber attacks has spiked by a quarter around the world in the past fortnight.
It comes as global experts gather at the Convention Centre Dublin to discuss the latest cybersecurity trends and challenges.
The event will hear from Special Agent Laukik Suthar of the US NCIS, as well as Detective Chief Superintendent with An Garda Siochana Pat Lordan, Group CEO of Smarttech247 Ronan Murphy and COO of Smarttech247 Raluca Saceanu.
The speaker list also includes representatives from Microsoft, IBM, The Irish Prison Service and Getvisibility.
Raluca Saceanu says Smarttech247 has deployed additional threat hunters to monitor the spike in cyber criminality in recent weeks, as well as creating multiple new rules in their Security Operation Centres (SOCs): “Business and industry need to be extremely vigilant right now.
“The surge in activity has been detected around the world but Ukraine is seeing a particularly serious wave of cyber threats, especially increased phishing attacks, where hackers use sophisticated methods to convince people to click on a link.
“There is no room for complacency right now and tackling the problem requires focused monitoring and vigilance.”
To stay ahead of what is a rapidly evolving threat landscape, Smarttech247 says businesses should increase their cyber defences, particularly their patching efforts, security awareness and general organisational vigilance.
The concern among the cybersecurity industry about current trends is reflected in the topics being discussed at Zero Day Con, including The Great Debate on Cyber Warfare, The Power of Collective Intelligence in Cybersecurity and Securing Critical Infrastructure and The Rise of National Cyber Threats.
