Women in Blockchain – if NASA can get it wrong, then we need to get it right!

Women in blockchain

Jillian Godsil, co-founder of Blockleaders.io and regular contributor to this site is speaking at the Blockchain Summit in the RDS on Thursday 30 May. To listen to her speak, visit the website

How was the last year, what worked well, what didn’t move as quickly as you would have liked?

Last year began with a bang (or was that a crash when the cryptomarkets fell and didn’t recover) and then settled into a good period of consolidation. It is often said that more gets done in a recession and that can be true. Some very good projects were begun in 2018 – including my own Blockleaders.io – and these are making good gains.

What are your plans for the future?

I am very much looking forward to building up my Blockleaders.io. This is a long form journalism site and I get to interview some very passionate people. It is a joy to work here

What will you be talking about at this event?

Women in Blockchain – if NASA get get it wrong we need to get it right. There are lower numbers of women in Stem generally but that is magnified in Blockchain. The general fall off in STEM can be attributed to lack of role models and gender stereotypes which is a real shame as jobs in STEM can really suit women’s choices in their lives such as taking time out to raise children. There is much more potential flexibility in STEM jobs in terms of hours worked and locations of work (ie home or satellite working) let alone better salaries when compared to traditional female jobs such as nursing or working in hospitality. When you come to Blockchain, this number falls off even more as there is a perception of risk in this industry and women are more risk adverse than men typically. Women in Blockchain is an important issue.

What inspired you to attend it?

Blockchain informs me mostly and if there is blockchain at an event, you’ll probably find me there – and that can be anywhere in the world

Which influencers and websites do you follow to keep up to date with the latest developments?

This site of course – ITN has a huge international following. My blockleaders.io of course for indepth profiles. Then BTCManager is good as well.

How can people find out more about what you are working on?

My linkedin is the most uptodate place to go: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jilliangodsil/

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?

I love clocks – can’t have enough loud ticking in my house!

And also it is lovely this year not to be in the European Parliamentary Elections – I’ll be speaking in Malta instead at the Malta AI and Blockchain summit.
