Virgin Media expands their broadband network to give Gorey

Virgin Media today announced that homes and businesses in Gorey will be next to benefit from their broadband and entertainment products.

As it kicks off its Network expansion in Gorey, Virgin Media plans to extend its network to up to 5,000 properties in 2017. It will also introduce Free Public Wifi to citizens in Gorey so that everyone will experience its superfast Wifi first hand.

Work has already begun in communities including Ramsgate Village, Gorey Hill, Woodbury, amongst others. In addition, the network is expected to connect 5,000 premises across these areas before the end of 2017, with fibre to the home (FTTH), delivering future-proofed connectivity.

Paul Farrell, Vice President of Commercial at Virgin Media, said: “Our message is simple, broadband matters.  If you want to get connected to Ireland’s fastest broadband network, join Virgin Media.

“By expanding our network to thousands more homes and businesses we are proving that there is no shortage of ambition and investment to get better broadband across Gorey and other parts of Wexford. We also offer terrific savings on home phone plans together with mobile phones with top brands and superfast 4G at no extra cost.  We have been overwhelmed by the response from other local communities throughout Ireland and we’re thrilled to have arrived in Gorey. Virgin Media customers are experiencing what real superfast broadband has to offer, which is important as the demand to connect, download and play continue to grow dramatically in Irish households.”

Diarmuid Devereux, CEO of Gorey Chamber, added:  “This is wonderful news for Gorey residents and businesses. This investment by Virgin Media is a massive, and welcome, boost to our communications infrastructure.

“We are in the midst of a remarkable transformation of Ireland’s digital landscape, and Virgin Media’s Network investment program will play an important role in ensuring our cities are fully equipped to meet the challenges of the digital age in which we live.”

Those who wish to take Virgin Media’s internet services will be connected to full fibre broadband with entry level download speeds of 100Mbps, reaching up to 360Mbps for residents and download speeds of 400Mbps for small businesses.

Backed by parent company Liberty Global, Virgin Media is investing £3bn to extend its fibre broadband network to an additional 4 million premises, to reach a total of 17 million homes and businesses.
