VideoDoc today announced a series of exciting growth developments for the online GP consultation company, following a major investment injection of €2.5 million.

VideoDoc, who are currently involved in several online GP initiatives and projects in Ireland, will continue the development of the doctor consultation service along with the clinical processes and technology that supports the service.

VideoDoc is committed to investing considerable resources into the areas of clinical research, the development of leading protocols and best practise with the involvement of its leading international clinical team. Part of the investment will also be allocated to the recruitment of leading GP’s in Ireland and the UK to ensure that as the service grows with more people wishing to avail of it, the waiting time to see a doctor can remain at its current 2/3 minutes.

As part of the investment announcement and expansion, VideoDoc expect to create 30 jobs over the next 12 months. Supporting the company’s new ambitious projections is former Tánaiste Mary Harney, who joins as company Chairperson, as well as a new Medical Director, Dr. Conor O’Hanlon, a founding member of the ICGP and experienced general practitioner with 37 years practising medicine.

Today’s announcement follows the continued growth of the company across both Ireland and the United Kingdom. Presently, VideoDoc partners with several high-profile health providers across Ireland such as, VHI, Beaumont Hospital, Group Schemes in Ireland, and Clanwilliam Healthcare, as well the NHS in the UK.

Commenting on the announcement, Mary O’Brien, CEO of VideoDoc, said “We are absolutely delighted to be partnering with our new investors and to be outlining the exciting growth plans this partnership will facilitate. The addition of Ms Mary Harney as Chair and Dr Conor O’Hanlon as Medical Director will provide invaluable experience and skill to our senior team as we look to expand our offering across the Irish and UK markets, as well as further afield”.

Mary Harney, Chair of VideoDoc said, “I am delighted to be appointed Chair of this progressive and innovative company. eHealth, and telemedicine in particular, has unlocked huge potential across several tech-embracing countries. I believe that online consultations are not a replacement for the well-established GP service that currently exists across Ireland and the UK, but rather complements and supports it. I believe that Ireland, with its wide-spread adoption of technology and acute challenges in accessing medical support, coupled with the rising cost of healthcare, is well-positioned to reap the benefits of professional telemedicine services. VideoDoc, with its team of IMC-registered GPs, is best positioned to lead this movement.”

Co-Founder and Director of VideoDoc Damian Kissane said, “Todays announcement is a real endorsement for VideoDoc and telehealth as a practice, with substantial investment, job announcements and two of Irelands leading health care minds now sitting at the helm of Ireland’s foremost telehealth provider. As technology continues to play a larger role in our health service, it is imperative that services like ours are directed by those with best in practice health care credentials, and in my opinion, that is exactly what Mary Harney and Dr. Conor O’Hanlon will provide.”
