Ugreen has released their highest output fast charger to date with the 300W 5-Port PD GaN Nexode. Ahead of its upcoming launch, they have sent us one to try out, and we have been putting it through its paces around the office to see how it performs.
As devices become more and more power-hungry and now have the ability to charge at high speeds, the need for such powerful chargers as the Nexode has grown. A few years ago, a 300-watt charger would have seemed like overkill, but for busy offices or households that have multiple laptops, tablets, smartphones and other accessories such as wearables and wireless earphones, it is quite easy to use chargers like this at their full potential.
What’s in the Box
The charger comes packaged with a removable power lead and a high-quality USB-C to USB-C cable.
Ugreen Nexode 300W Design and Features
The device measures approximately 110 x 95 x 50mm, which is relatively compact considering the output that is on tap here.
The device is finished in a nice space grey type colour, and all of the ports for charging are on the front face.
There are four USB-C and one USB-A port available to use. Of the four USB-C ports, one port has a dedicated 140-watt output while two of the other USB-C ports are cable of outputting 100 watts each.
The Ugreen Nexode 300W charger also supports the PD 3.1 fast charging protocol which will support a wide range of devices being able to charge at their fastest speed.
On the safety side, the device has advanced GaN and SiC chips to manage the device and ensure thermal dissipation, while the built-in “Thermal Gaurd” continuously monitors temperature in real-time, taking 6000 temperature measurements per minute to ensure everything is operating within spec.
How does it Perform in Day to Day Use
A typical day for most of me in the office, before I head out on the road, would be topping up the charge on all of the devices that go into my laptop bag, along with my iPhone. Depending on what I am heading out to, my bag would usually have a Macbook, an iPad, a battery bank and some wireless earphones in it. Charing all these devices usually takes place using multiple chargers in the office, so the devices all charge as fast as possible. With the 300-watt Ugreen Nexode, it is possible to charge all of the devices quickly using just this one device.
Having just one device to charge all of your devices is easier and neater than using multiple chargers, and while I wouldn’t consider the Nexode necessarily portable, it weighs about the same as the 26000mAh battery bank I usually carry with me, so it’s conceivable to bring the Nexode on the road with you to keep all your devices charged at an event for example.
Conclusion
We have reviewed many Ugreen products over the last few years and have purchased many others for around the office. They are always high quality and built to last, and the Nexode 300W 5-Port PD GaN Fast Charger is no different.
It performs as described, and if you have multiple devices in your home or office that can benefit from fast charging, then this is an easy recommendation.
