GlobalData.com is a disruptor database that specialises in decoding emerging tech-enabled opportunities with must-have information on promising start-ups. They report on every quarter of the year to provide us with the top trends in the cybersecurity industry.

The information released by GlobalData also included other emerging trends related to cybersecurity for the opening quarter of 2021, including the top companies and the top discussion topics.

In terms of companies, GitHub, Amazon, and Cisco Systems emerged as the most mentioned companies among cybersecurity influencer discussions on Twitter during Q1 2021.

Information security, cyberattack and ransomware were the most mentioned trends in cybersecurity during the period.

On March 23 rd , hackers used the name of the GitHub creator and developer to compromise the official PHP Git Server and put a backdoor in the source. There were also rumours that Amazon was experiencing difficulties with their product, ‘Alexa’, and its usage skills being capable of bypassing the security vetting process.

With information security proving an emerging trend in Q1 2021, Influencer Analyst at GlobalData.com, Smitarani Tripathy talked about potential reasons for this.

Tripathy: “Influencer conversations related to information security with a major focus on data security grew by 10% in Q1 2021, compared to the previous quarter, majorly due to increase in data breach activites”.

As 4000 companies’ first choice when it comes to data analysis, GlobalData are host to some of the most expansive business figures in the world. The information they scout out each quarter is essential to making the cybersecurity industry aware of all potential trends and dangers.
