Thursday Business Showcase : Mykidstime.com

By @SimonCocking

Describe the company.

Mykidstime.com @mykidstime is one of the most trusted online brands for parents in Ireland, where they can find information and ideas on kids’ activities and things to do, from recipes to travel to ideas for home. We have built up our brand and trusted reputation over a number of years through a consistent approach to bringing high quality content to online parents.

We help businesses reach parents through a range of online marketing packages that are measurable, work 24/7 and are designed to engage and delight parents.

So we have to consider both B2B and B2C in terms of our strategy and our marketing.

How are you different?

Our community trusts our team and we have a very engaged relationship with them particularly on social media. We write great content that parents enjoy and want to read. We have positioned ourselves in the activity space as opposed to the general parenting advice space and this means we can focus our content on key areas around things to do with your child or for your child to do. We have developed expertise in content writing and engagement, which means any business with us isn’t getting a standard banner or standard advertorial, they’re getting their brand built into content that parents want to read.

Why will the company / product do well?

We have a strong brand, a unique brand voice and an outstanding content capability which meets both our audience and customer’s online digital needs.

Where are you based, how is the broadband?

Galway (it’s pretty good)

When was the company launched?

2007

What have been your biggest wins to date?

We have grown our Facebook fans organically to 450,000 + fans through a very specific content and visual strategy aimed at our target users Mums. We have a mix of content going out across the day on our page, with engagement pieces built in. We have been fortunate to continue growing our fan base while keeping up the engagement and reach, it’s not all about the numbers!

We also implemented an online marketplace www.mykidstimestore.com to complement our main website, we resell high quality and unique products for kids and parents, and we like to support small Irish producers.

The other big win for us has been growing our website visits to over 500,000 visits a month. Again this is through our content and visual strategy and through our success on social media. As well as Facebook & Twitter, Pinterest is now a growing traffic driver for us. Since we implemented our new visual strategy, we have seen our Pinterest traffic go from 1% to 9% in the last 6 months. We measure all our digital activity and use our Analytics and Insights to guide and tweak our ongoing marketing strategy.

I’d recommend for any new business looking to go onto social to be very clear about what the business objectives are for going on that social channel and make sure all activity tries to meet those objectives.

What type of people are you trying to attract to your product?

Our core audience on our websites are parents but we also get visits and contacts from grandparents, aunts and uncles and childcarers. 90% of our audience are women.

With regards to our customer side, any brands or organisations that want to reach that audience.

Tell us about your team?

There are 7 working on Mykidstime in a variety of roles from content to social. The great thing is we are all parents so we understand our audience and what they want.

What are you long term plans for your product / company?

We want to bring Mykidstime to parents across the world, and that’s already happening, so long term we’d like to build the traffic across the globe and establish ourselves as a truly global website. We plan to implement more mobile friendly content and develop our content and visuals, and look to new formats that deliver well on devices.

For our customers, we want to build out our services to help them with their digital marketing. Video we see as a huge part of that as well as mobile as more and more people access online with their mobiles and devices.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

I love apps that make running the business easier. For example, the Fast Analytics app which gives a quick dashboard overview of your Google Analytics feed.

I do also love my new iPhone 6….

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

Am I allowed to mention the Apple Watch? How cool…

How can people contact you?

Best thing to do is to visit our website Mykidstime.com.  If people want to know more and keep up-to-date with our latest developments, they can link to our social media on facebook, pinterest, instagram or twitter @mykidstime .
