Thursday Business Showcase : Learning Data

By @SimonCocking

Describe the company

Learning Data is the technology division of The Examcraft Group. Our main focus is Schoolbag a software platform which helps students organise their learning and therefore their performance.

How are you different?

Our software is student focussed and developed for a device enabled learning environment. Most of the software platforms developed for schools have a teacher, management or administrative focus.

Why will the company / product do well?

Schoolbag helps teachers and students with the ‘Homework Problem’. If students are not in class, it is impossible for them to know what was covered in class – however with Schoolbag, they are always connected, always informed and their learning is always organised. So it is a winner for teachers, parents and students.

Where are you based? (& How is the broadband?)

We are based in the Guinness Enterprise Centre (GEC) in Dublin 8. The GEC provides a dynamic work environment combining office space with business support services in a connected network of entrepreneurs, high growth companies, investors and support agencies.

When was the company launched?

Learning Data is in its second year.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

We have just signed up an Australian partner to sell Schoolbag into the Australian market. We are also launching the product into the UK market. Our first paying customer for Schoolbag was Spanish, showing that the SAAS software the market not bound by the same geographical restrictions as traditional businesses.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

We sell our products into secondary schools in both Ireland and overseas. They are tailored made for this market. So while schools, i.e. principals and teachers are the purchasers, students are the ultimate beneficiaries.

Tell us about your team? (which roles did you fill first, which later on? Why?)

Learning Data has eight employees. Philip O’Callaghan is the managing director and Stuart Johnson is the technical director. We have three other developers, graphic designer, a support person and a sales resource.

What are you long term plans for your product / company?

Our longer term plans are for Schoolbag to become a market leading digital student organiser in the markets in which we compete.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

My mobile phone; I wouldn’t be without it!!

How can people contact you?

Best thing to do is to visit our website.  If people want to know more and keep up-to-date with our latest developments, they can link to our social media on Facebook, and @Learning_Data.
