We look at the latest book by Paolo Gallo. The Seven Games of Leadership is available from Bloomsbury here.

Review of Seven Games of Leadership

In the latest book by Paolo Gallo, he continues to mine his own rich working experience, while also working hard to ensure that is offers interesting and actionable tasks for the reader. Gallo also weaves in plenty of pop culture references, which does keep it interesting, and no harm to see how Bob Dylan has something to contribute to his insights and smart tips on now to deal with the world.

Each section is practical and accessible, with a coherent logic and strategy to the games he is describing as well as why they are of use to the reader. His analysis of the quality of his various bosses across his working career was both insightful and entertaining. To summarise, about 20% were very good, helpful, supportive, approximately another 30% were helpful to some degree. 30% weren’t very impressive, and, down at the bottom a thankfully small minority were utter incompetent bordering on psychotic.

As we read this, it is inevitable that you muse on your own experiences. The point being that there are just some less than helpful bosses out there, and so it is always important to consider if you should even remain in your current location. Leaving may seem like the nuclear option, but it often works out for the best, and far better than staying where you are not appreciated or even abused.

Across the book there are lots of relatable moments, good insights, moments of wisdom and it was an enjoyable and useful book to read.

More about the book

A fresh take on assessing your priorities – both professionally and personally – to ensure you are in the best position to make a positive difference to the people and places around you, and in the process to transform your own life.

The disruptive moment in which we find ourselves living demands that we are our own agents of change. The Seven Games of Leadership is a guide for readers through seven key phases of personal and professional development, with the aim not of climbing a corporate ladder but of finding true and lasting satisfaction in what they do.

It encourages the realization that revolutionary change is not about destroying the current status quo, but about co-designing and rebuilding different paths for individuals to thrive, and go on to have a positive impact on society at large. The objective is to allow people to identify a career that is better aligned not only with their individual values, but with a broader purpose centred on a wider sense of humanity and sustainable prosperity for all.

The Seven Games of Leadership provides the tools and practical advice you need to reassess your priorities and take the steps necessary to refocus your life, your career and the issues of the world around you.
