Review of The Infinite Game: How Great Businesses Achieve Long-lasting Success by Simon Sinek.
The New York Times-bestselling author of Start With Why, Leaders Eat Last, and Together Is Better offers a bold new approach to business strategy by asking one question: are you playing the finite game or the infinite game?
In The Infinite Game, Sinek applies game theory to explore how great businesses achieve long-lasting success. He finds that building long-term value and healthy, enduring growth – that playing the infinite game – is the only thing that matters to your business.
The Infinite Game: How Great Businesses Achieve Long-lasting Success, Simon Sinek, reviewed
It’s all about the big picture, ‘stupid’, to paraphrase Bill Clinton’s comments about the economy. Sinek riffs interestingly on Just Causes and Worthy Opponents. He has a good anecdote and insight about his own ‘worthy opponent’, who he hated, followed, stalked, compared himself to, and ultimately became a friend and collaborator with. Apple and Microsoft are also compared as competing but very dissimilar companies at times. The headset of the leadership makes a massive difference in terms of whether you are remembering the big picture or being dragged down into the morass of petty actions and perceived slights.
In the wider of context of a growing reassessment of how business is being done, and what is appropriate and inappropriate interactions with the world, Sinek’s book is an enjoyable and thought-provoking read. Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg are another company who are discussed and a strong example of currently failed leadership in terms of acting in an ethically appropriate way.
*THIS IS FACTUALLY INCORRECT* Trump claims victory in Pennsylvania on @Facebook before any trusted source has called the election in that state. This tiny label from Facebook is actively amplifying the spread of this disinfo and complicit in a premature declaration of victory. pic.twitter.com/XfNE3QSe7G

We face challenging times, and this book is a good guide for those looking to come up with a better way to play the infinite game. As Sinek says, nobody ‘win’s’ the game of life, we are all finite players in an infinite game, but we can at least perform in a smarter and more holistic way.
You can't choose the game. You can't choose the rules. You can only choose how to play. The new Infinite Game Class will help you find new ways of thinking and behaving to make your life and career more meaningful, inspiring and impactful: https://t.co/lm7V68DC1J pic.twitter.com/t0RnKjhJcp
