The CodED Club launches its first meet up for new coders in the Science Gallery

April 24th saw the inaugural meet up of the CodED Club take place in the Dublin Science Gallery. This club is the first meet up of its kind in Ireland, providing a platform for adults with an interest in coding to meet and learn from experts in the development and maker scenes.

Enthusiastic members arrived straight from work to take part in a range of beginners’ coding workshops using the online programming resource Scratch and the popular robot Sphero.

The workshops were designed to be practical, allowing all learners to get their hands dirty from the start. This direct involvement with a project is essential to learning to code- you have to get in a car to learn to drive! It also made for a very engaging 2 hours for the participants.

The goal of this club is skill development – it not only focuses on learning to program, but also about computational thinking, problem solving, planning, designing and collaboration.

The brain child of founders Reuben Jayawardene and David Pollard, the CodED Club aims to provide regular meetings for beginners who wish to develop new skills in the area of coding.

Co-founder Reuben Jayawardene believes that “Coding is an increasingly necessary skill in nearly every profession, and yet many people have missed out on the opportunity to study it. The CodED Club provides an arena where like-minded professionals can meet and gain valuable coding knowledge and experience”.

After the hugely successful launch,(which saw CodED Club promoted as one of the must-attend tech events of May by edtech specialists Versari) CodED Club is delighted to announce its second meet up, which will take place in the Science Gallery on Tues 24th May from 17:30-19:30.
