1 min pitch for what you are doing now?
I’m a search engine optimisation expert focusing on technical SEO and strategic consulting for large websites, with a specialism in news publishers.
How was the last 12 months, what worked well, what didn’t move as quickly as you would have liked?
SEO is Not Magic Unicorn dust you Sprinkle Over a Website SEO starts with the foundational aspects of a website to ensure it can be efficiently crawled and its content indexed and ranked in search results. Join Barry’s keynote on ‘Voice Assistants and Pro-Active Devices – How Technology is Changing Search and SEO’ at 3XE Search on 19th October, Croke Park, Dublin. It’s been a very good year for me. I started my own business a bit more than three years ago, and I’ve been busy from day one. In the last few months I’ve signed up some really excellent clients, including Feefo, Perkbox, Pockit, Wolters Kluwer, and Fox News. The latter is an especially interesting client – it’s not often you get to work with one of the world’s largest news organisations.
I’ve also launched classroom-based technical SEO training courses, delivered right here in Dublin in collaboration with Learn Inbound. The first course was held in August with a full room, and the feedback from the attendees has been superb: on average they gave the course a score of 9.5 out of 10. The next course is on October 27th and we’re hoping for another great turnout.
What are your plans for the future?
The plan is to keep delivering excellent work for my clients, and expand the training side of the business. I’ve had a lot of people ask me to create an online technical SEO training course, so that’s something I’m keen to explore. I also want to maintain my focus on news publishers, as they’re great websites to work on.
What will you be talking about at this event?
I’ll be talking about the changing landscape of search, and how new technologies like voice search and contextual triggers are changing the way we build and optimise websites.
What inspired you to attend it?
As a regular speaker at digital conferences, I have a big network of other SEOs and digital experts that speak at events like 3XE. Some of my industry friends spoke at the previous edition and they really seemed to enjoy it, so when the opportunity arose to speak at this 3XE event I didn’t hesitate for a second.
Which influencers and websites do you follow to keep up to date with the latest developments?
There are a few SEO professionals whose opinions and insights I value above all others. I hesitate to name them because I’ll likely forget to mention one or two and that might cost me a pint at some later stage. 🙂 I follow the big industry websites like Search Engine Land and Search Engine Roundtable, and of course State of Digital for which I’m a co-chief editor and blogger.
How can people find out more about what you are working on?
