From award-winning sound design to beautifully made concept art, it’s time for gaming technology to get the proper credit they deserve. The gaming industry was also one of the biggest contributors to our society’s advancement to a better life. In fact, one of the biggest leaps we’ve made this century was pushed by the competitiveness of the different huge companies seen in the gaming industry. They underwent a series of creative and technological breakthroughs just so that people can live through their favourite gaming characters or play casino games at Casumo, if they’re into games of luck.

A Short History on Gaming

It all began with the release of the “Brown Box” in the ‘60s. It was the very first tech game ever commercialized, and it involves making sure that a tiny little ball doesn’t die by hitting it with two straight lines, much like a game of ping pong but on your TV screen. We might not appreciate it today, with the rise of games like God of War and Detroit: Become Human, but this early and humble beginning is what paved the way to the most beloved games in this day and age.

It didn’t take long before the creation of the first arcade game in 1971 by Bushnell and Ted Dabney. It didn’t take long, and arcade houses were filled with people of all ages, with the arcade house being a place to have fun without the daily worries (until the tokens ran out that is). The arcade became a separate industry on its own, with arcades being placed all over the world for people to play in. It still has a strong devout community today, despite others stating that the arcade is way too outdated, with arcade houses still marking into the minds of the younger generation with the help of hipster trends and nostalgic movements.

With the creation of arcades, a place where friends can gather to play, came the idea of actually playing together through multiplayer games. In 1973, games like Astro Race began circulating through the growing gaming industry. With that, the creation of equipment strong enough to handle these games was becoming more and more competitive. Companies like Nintendo and Sony began racing and even headbutting into creating the best console while producing the best games for their respective platforms. The rest, as they say, is history.

Gaming Technology Today

What once was considered a laughable idea has grown into a competitive, bustling, economy. Almost every year, new models of gaming consoles are released along with accessories that can enhance the immersion and experience. Let’s take a look at two of the greatest inventions created by the gaming industry.

Virtual Reality

People were sceptical upon the first release of VR Headsets. Not many people could wrap their minds over the incredibly powerful machine’s existence. Admittedly, the models back then weren’t as great as they are today. But with time, VR has turned into such a remarkable piece of technology that it’s not even solely used by the Gaming Industry anymore. Nowadays, it’s being used in many industries mainly for training and education, but you can already enjoy the benefits of AR for recreational purposes like games and movies. In addition, you could also use your phone as an augmented reality device (AR), which is another dimension for virtual reality.

Gesture Control

Who would have thought that games like Just Dance could help pave the way for the creation of smart-acting cars? Slowly but surely, automotive gesture recognition is being implemented to help cars respond faster to your commands. This is all made possible through a little camera mounted by your vehicle, watching your movement in order to translate your gesture into an assigned function.

Wrapping it up

Have a little faith in the technology the gaming industry invests in – you never know if you’ll end up using it day-to-day in the future. There’s still so much to be seen.
