5,000 Financial Services Jobs in the South-West by 2025
Cork Chamber and Financial Services Ireland have joined forces to host an event to discuss the skills, innovation and infrastructure needed to continue growing the financial services sector in the South-West to 5,000 jobs by 2025.
At an event in Cork city today, addressed by An Tánaiste, Simon Coveney, and sponsored by BNY Mellon and Summit Finuas Network, financial services and academic experts from across the region gathered to discuss ways to grow the sector.
Speaking at the event, Eoin Motherway, Chair of Cork Chamber’s Financial Services Forum said: “I am fully confident that we will see further growth in the international financial services sector in the South-West region in the coming years. We have a very strong cluster here already, with a depth and breadth of companies operating in this sector that cannot be found in any other regional location in Ireland.”
“For the past 18 months our Financial Services Forum has been working hard to put Cork and the South-West region on the map, given our attractive offering as a financial services location, and we have over 20 industry partners working together towards this goal.”
“We are fortunate to have two extremely responsive third level education providers in UCC and CIT, that between them are graduating over a thousand students each year in finance and other related disciplines, including fintech and information security, to support the future needs of the industry.
“Recent announcements in Cork such as the growth of both Clearstream and Apex Fund Services, demonstrate industry confidence in Cork. Together with some of our indigenous success stories such as Global Shares, and international names such as FEXCO, who have announced further significant investments in Kerry, we are excited to see the South-West region evolving into a highly competitive financial services hub which is strengthening Ireland’s global profile as a centre for specialist IFS”.
