Great interview with Janice Valentine Founder of Great Life Distillery. Organiser of @HackAccessdub. Passionate about #Purposeatwork & #Tech4Good. Janice tells us about the upcoming event “Startup Salon”.
Website here.
When is it on?
Thursday 7th September, Dogpatch Labs.
How many years has it been going?
Since 2015
What was the inspiration to start it?
Startup Salon was borne from Janice’s commitment to helping individuals use entrepreneurship to design more creative, autonomous and purposeful careers. An advocate of Tech4Good and Social Innovation, Janice believes entrepreneurship will be key for tackling social challenges in the future
What exciting things can people look forward to for the 2017 version?
This edition focuses on where the entrepreneurial opportunities will be in the near future and how startups can solve challenges relating to energy and sustainability, accessibility, cities and an array of other societal issues. This event is for purpose orientated entrepreneurs with the ambition and creativity to take on these challenges!
What opportunities are on offer for people / startups / investors and companies attending?
It is intended that Startup Salon is a platform off which aspiring founders can take their first steps towards their goal of working for themselves. In view of this, Janice takes a coaching approach to her panel discussions; focusing in part one, on the founder’s purpose and how they translated that purpose into a business and then, in part two, the discussion is focused on offering constructive, practical advise for how people feeling stuck in the mire of a 9-5, corporate job can take their first steps towards creating a more fulfilling work life through entrepreneurship. It is both practical and inspiring with opportunities to meet the founders and network with other people in the same position as they are.
What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?
Bring an open mind and be prepared to share your ideas and hopes for the future with those you meet there. And bring a notebook to write down your ideas – writing things down is the first step to making a change!
How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?
On Eventbrite – link is here.
