Describe the company – the elevator pitch …

Yank Technologies, Inc. is a wireless charging startup in the Columbia University Startup Lab. We wirelessly charge electronic devices at the places and moments you need to be charged most.

How are you different?

We’re building the first wireless charging product that doesn’t require point-to-point contact with your smartphone called the MotherBox. The MotherBox can sense the battery level of your device, turn itself on when needed, and wirelessly charge your device during use. We’re patent pending on our technology and are now showing potential strategic partners and investors demos at our lab.

Why will the company / product do well?

How often were you playing Pokemon Go and before you could catch that Pidgey, your phone died? How often were you in the middle of a conversation with a boss, a friend, or a spouse, and again your phone died?

The problem is that our phones often die at the most inopportune places at the most inconvenient times, but there are no great alternatives for us to turn.

Until now.

Where are you based?

Columbia University Startup Lab
69 Charlton St.
New York, NY 10014

When was the company launched?

We have been working on this idea for almost three years, and officially incorporated in June 2015.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

I think our biggest win was building a talented, dedicated team. Our product has required a great deal of technical development, so everything that we have accomplished so far can be attributed to our team and their efforts. Being a bootstrapped hardware startup has honestly been very difficult. I have personally been through poverty, and at one point lost over 30 pounds due to starvation. We’ve managed to persevere through the challenging times because of our team, and I’m lucky to be working with them.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

We are targeting Power Users because of their high interest levels in the MotherBox and its applications. Power Users are consumers who use social media, games, GPS, and other high battery consumption applications six or more hours a day.

Tell us about your team?

I’m really fortunate to work with an incredibly talented group of people. Jin and I actually met over LinkedIn about a year ago, and we met Harshal and Dan over Angellist about the same time.

Below, please find the credentials of myself and our other team members:

Josh Yank, Chief Executive Officer
I graduated magna cum laude from University at Buffalo in three years with a B.S. in Finance, and then graduated from Binghamton University a year later with an MBA, making me one of the youngest ever in the program. I am also a self-taught electrical and software engineer.

Jin Li, Chief Engineer
Jin received a BS in Electrical Engineering from University at Buffalo and a Master’s in Electrical Engineering at Columbia University. He has domain expertise in circuit designing, lab testing, and circuit debugging. Jin is a member of IEEE, Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, Eta Kappa Nu, and Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity.

Danelek LLC, Antenna Engineer
Dan received a BS in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Davis, and a Master’s in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California. He has worked 9+ years in the electronics industry, principally on RF electronics and electromagnetic modeling.

Harshal Agrawal, PCB Engineer
Harshal received his BS in Electrical Engineering from University of Mumbai and his Master’s in Electrical Engineering from NYU. He has 3+ years of full-time RF engineering experience with expertise in RF Power amplifiers, switches, and transceiver devices.

What are you long term plans for your product / company?

We hope to transform energy distribution for our electronic devices. We’re starting with smartphones, but plan to charge other devices in the future, such as wearables and tablets. Furthermore, we’d like to apply our technology to different industries beyond the consumer electronic space from automobiles to robotics.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

My favorite tech product is my smartphone, which is an iPhone 5s. The irony is that it dies all the time.

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

I think the Amazon Echo is a really interesting product, and would really like to buy one in the future.

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?

We’re currently preparing for a future crowdfunding campaign. If you’re interested, please subscribe on our website to stay up to date and receive special offers! Thank you for your time!
