Spotted Places allows you to get recommendations from people you trust. Think of Yelp but only the positive reviews from your friends.
How are you different?
Most applications that give recommendations (like Yelp or Foursquare) are crowdsourced and populated by people you don’t know. These people don’t necessarily have a lot in common with you, meaning that their favorite places might be places you dislike. The reviews on Yelp tend to balance out to 3.5 stars so you spend a lot of time finding the best places to go. By allowing you to pick people to follow (friends, family or influencers), you can see recommendations from people that are more similar to you, making the recommendations higher quality and personalized to you.
When you are exploring a new location, you can now see which of your friends have been there and what experiences in the area they would recommend.
Spotted Places ONLY shows positive recommendations. If you want to vent about how bad the newest restaurant is in your area, Spotted Places is not for you – You can do that somewhere else.

Why will the company / product do well?
We wanted a way for people to make genuine human connections with each other through the use of technology. By sharing spots, you allow others to share the same experiences, connecting with them in unique ways. We believe people will become addicted to finding and sharing cool spots with their friends through Spotted Places. By making this human connection the core of everything we do, it will be the key to our success!
Our team also has a tremendous amount of passion and experience in this area which will make us unstoppable!
Where are you based?
We are based in Seattle, Washington.
When was the company launched?
Spotted Places was founded in July of 2016. The app is currently in a private beta which started in August. Our goal is to launch in early 2017. If anyone is interested in getting into our private beta they can sign up at SpottedPlaces.com/signup!
What have been your biggest wins to date?
The app so far! We have done a tremendous amount of work in such a short amount of time. We love the integration of current social media sites and even how you can get a ride to any spot using Uber!
We also were invited to showcase at Startup Grind’s Global Conference in late February.
What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?
We are initially targeting people who love to travel and eat great food! These are people who tend to enjoying sharing their experiences and asking their friends for recommendations.
Tell us about your team?
The Founders are neighbors in a small town just outside of Seattle, Washington. Both work in tech so they had an instant connection and passion for building game changing technologies. They saw a market need after constantly discussing great restaurants and hiking spots in the area and realized that there was not a great way to share these experiences.
The culture of the team is incredibly fun! This is seriously the best place to work.

What are your long term plans for your product / company?
We would love to get into machine learning and predict the experiences you want to have before you are even aware of them. This would truly be magical!
What are your favourite tech gadgets?
Our CTO is a big fan of his battery powered lawnmower!
