SPKTRM, from KAMBO, is Mend’s debut exhibition running throughout September. Here is everything you need to know:
When and where is it on?
“SPKTRM is the debut exhibition from KAMBO. It’s taking place in mend, a gallery, exhibition and studio space in Harolds Cross. We’re running the show for September.”
How many years has it been going?
“Mend is a brand new space , but we have all been working artists in Ireland for the last 10/15 years. We started work on the space in May and have been slowly adding to the space since then. We’re extremely limited in resources so we haven’t been able to get too far ahead of ourselves.”
What was the inspiration to start Mend?
“We’re a group of friends who came together to reinvigorate neglected space in our community through art & culture. We wanted to find somewhere where we could embed ourselves in the local community, develop our practices and put on exhibitions. You could probably say it’s partly a sort of activism and partly out of a frustration at the creative scene in Ireland.”
What exciting things can people look forward to?
“A host of shows and exhibitions from a variety of artists living in Ireland. Our website blog will be updated periodically as things unfold. We don’t want to give too much away yet.”
What opportunities are on offer for those attending?
“We’d like to think that people will appreciate that we are doing things differently to the norm. As a gallery, immersion in the works and minds of the artists is paramount. If someone is going to an art show looking for an incentive beyond the aesthetic experience, then this probably isn’t the place for them.”
“SPKTRM is a unique exhibition for us to have as our opening show. Stripped of the usual markers of identity, the meaning making process of the experience is left entirely up to the individual or group.”
