How many years has it been going?

Our first home event in Madrid took place in 2014, while our first internal expansion to LATAM was in 2017, in Bogotá.

What was the inspiration to start it?

The company was founded in 2012 as a response to the financial crisis who struck Europe, among which Spain was one of the countries who suffered from it the most. Our CEO, María Benjumea, who was an influential woman well connected in the ecosystem thanks to a successful entrepreneur background, realized that entrepreneurs were the driving force to revitalize the economy. Hence, her mission ever since has been to help promote talent, innovation, and entrepreneurship, by gathering the right people at the right place to create business opportunities.

What exciting things can people look forward to?

A unique experience with the vibes of the South, a selection of very special representatives from the ecosystem looking to make business, fun evening side-events, inspirational & insightful talks, and one of the biggest startup competitions in the world.

What opportunities are on offer for those attending?

Meeting the right person in the perfect atmosphere to create opportunities. Easily connecting with people that would be otherwise difficult to reach. Give unprecedented visibility to you and your company’s brand.

Who will be speaking?

Corporate C-levels will speak at the corporate forum to talk about Open Innovation Strategies. Investors will sit at the Investors’ Den to talk about trends in the VC and Investment world as a whole, while a combination of entrepreneurs, investors, and corporates will be on main stage talking about the skills required to scaling innovation in their respective industries. What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?

Ask questions to the speakers at the end of the session. This grants a free pass for you to introduce yourself to the speaker afterwards and make a valuable connection.

Write on twitter a lot, and use the event’s hashtag. The algorithm will soon catch up, and your name will pop out when people check out the event’s hashtags.
If applicable, offer to join as a speaker OR as a media partner who will write about the event. This grants you a better ticket free of charge and allows you to be truly part of the event and get the best out of it.

Business tickets, which grant access to additional zones, have a cost.
There are no ticket limits. The more, the merrier:)

South Summit Startup competition has already become a benchmark for Innovation which brings together the 100 most innovative startups. Any Startup in the ecosystem, if having a promising idea and team behind, will surely be found in our pitching sessions. South Summit is undoubtedly a seal of quality recognizable by every agent related to the entrepreneurial environment.

At last edition 3,500+ projects were presented, 47% of Spanish origin and 53% of international origin. More than 650 investors gathered last year where Startups from previous editions have raised +1.5 billion dollars with success stories such as Cabify, Typeform, Drivy, Glovo, and Spotahome. The potential of finalist startups from previous editions is demonstrated by the strategic agreements reached between these projects and leading innovation corporations.
