Social media is more than just a place to reach out to friends and family. It is more than just a place to meet people, share hobbies, and follow our favourite movie stars. We use social media to share news and to react to events that shock our senses.
Social media platforms have grown to be massive sites that are now powerful avenues of commerce. This is why social media platforms are the target of media campaigns for corporations of all sizes. Marketing experts focus on the growth and popularity of the various social media sites and the dynamics of the sites to reach the clients that would most likely purchase their products. But, change is in the air.
Overload
Social media grew with the popularity of personal computers. We soon learned we could reach out to people from our keyboard and we liked it. We could show our family in another country a photograph of our new baby. We could invite the soccer team to our child’s birthday celebration. We could even set up social media pages to help plan our weddings.
We learned to trust our computers with our personal information and our debit card information so we could purchase things online. We paid our bills, renewed our subscriptions, and contacted our medical doctor’s office with our concerns. We went into overload mode.
All that shines is not gold
Soon we found that everyone who contacts us on social media is not our friend. We learned how people would befriend you in order to bully you, blackmail you, and destroy your reputation. They could virtually follow you anywhere. Children became victims of social media that had been manipulated into something that the authorities could not quickly unravel. Debit and credit cards were sometimes hacked and used by people without permission causing major financial problems for the account holder.
Detox
This is why people are beginning to detox from social media. They are deleting platforms they no longer use. They are removing programs they do not use and they are adding security measures to the programs they choose to keep. In a way, they are making their social media easier to manage.
These people are keeping what they enjoy. They are keeping their favourite social media sites, their news sites, and other things that they use. But by reducing the apps and programs on their system they no longer worry about the effects on their mental health, fake news, or privacy.
They still use their computers for things they like to do. For example, Lottoland Ireland lets you play the lotto on your mobile. This is a handy and fun way to use an app and it is secured and safe. They safeguard their property and gamble with a company they can trust.
Social media will continue to be a strong force in 2020, but customers will proceed carefully. They will take steps to ensure their system is safe and secure. It will be interesting to see how the big software companies react to this change.
