Here at Irish Tech News we had the opportunity to question one of the organisers of this years Social Media Summit Ireland and bring you the lowdown on what to expect:
When is it on?
This years event takes place on the 11th and 12th of April in Croke Park
How many years has it been going?
The Summit is now in its second year – the first taking place in 2016
What was the inspiration to start it?
Samantha Kelly, the Founder of the Summit, noticed on Twitter especially that businesses seemed to be using it incorrectly. Most were using it as an advertising platform (which it isn’t) and also didn’t know what to do if things went wrong. So she got to thinking, what is the reason behind this? She did a few twitter polls and discovered that fear around the social media unknowns, and a lack of training was a factor. So she thought why not get real experts in social media into one room and show how it’s done. She also used to want to go to events like this but the biggest and best one were in the USA and she couldn’t understand why no one had done one here yet.
What exciting things can people look forward to for the 2017 version? Who will be speaking etc?
What’s really special about this years event, is firstly that we are bringing in the best speakers from top Digital brands and agencies from Ireland and across the globe to give insightful and dynamic talks. Secondly the following day of the event will focus on powerful workshops led by the top people in the Social Media market – giving the attendees the chance to put their learning’s into practise with the help of these market leaders.
The speakers that have been announced come from some of the top Digital and Social Media agencies in Ireland, including Wolfgang Digital, Rothco and Circulate.

What is background behind the Founder Samantha Kelly?
Samantha is a Twitter expert and social media influencer. She is also a twitter verified user and author of “Tweet Your Way to Success”. She knows how to build communities online and take those relationships offline so this was a perfect step forward in the market.

What opportunities are on offer for (startups) and companies attending your event?
The success of the Social Media Summit is that it puts you in the room with the people who really know how to use Social Media effectively. It’s an approachable setting where you will gain real, usable knowledge and skills that you can take away and apply immediately – a roadmap to getting a measurable return on your efforts. It’s about actual success stories and the people behind those successes, but more than that it’s about you learning how to walk that walk yourself.
What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?
You’re getting in a room with the people who really know how to make any investment on your Social Media pay, the people who’ll know the new big thing in Social Media and how to use it successfully and the high profile success stories and the people behind then – so come prepared to learn!
How can people book tickets?
We advise people to get their tickets early so not to avoid disappointment – you can get them at Social Media Summit website – Early bird tickets still available but selling out rapidly!
Anything else you’d like to add?
Last year’s event trended over Justin Biebers Birthday with over 100 million timelines reached – our savvy Social Media is a testament to our credentials. Anyone who attended last year couldn’t wait for more, so now we are ready to deliver another huge amount of value, deliver on making your Social Media pay, and create a huge buzz online for two days in April. Can’t wait!
