Science Is Rising In Cork City Hall

Cork City Hall will host a full day of FREE science shows on Saturday 19 November 2016 in association with Cork Science Festival and Science Week Ireland 2016. For one day, families can choose from two free exciting shows: ‘Science Rising: Small Beginnings’, aimed to enthral the very smallest scientist or, for older children and adults, ‘Science Rising: The Big Picture’ is a spectacular 3D tour of the universe in stunning sound and vision.

Cork City Council hosts this event as part of Science Week Ireland and Cork Science Festival 2016. Speaking at the launch, STEM Education Co-ordinator with Cork City Council, Marcela Whelan Kelly said: “Cork City Council has been a strong supporter of STEM education for well over 10 years, and we are delighted to be able to continue to demonstrate that commitment with this full day of free shows for all ages. With each show running throughout the day, these will prove a welcome and weatherproof activity for families.”

‘Science Rising: Small Beginnings’ will suit children between the ages of 4-8 years. This fun, interactive show comprises a series of simple science tricks using balloons, spinning plates and other household items aimed at stimulating the minds of budding young scientists. There are 3 timeslots available for this 75 minute show, running at 11am, 2pm and 4pm on Saturday 19 November.

For older science fans, ‘Science Rising: The Big Picture’ is a spectacular 1-hour show for children over 8 and adults, running at 12:30, 3:30pm, 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Space Sector Advisor Robert Hill from Northern Ireland Space Office will use the very latest 3D technology to give a spectacular guided tour of our Solar System, including a virtual flight over the surface of Mars, on the largest 3D screen of its kind in Ireland.
