Scaleup Summit, September, 25-26th, San Francisco
When and where is it on?
The Scaleup Summit will take place in September 25-26 in San Francisco, at the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center, as part of the wider “SEC2SV – Startup Europe Comes to Silicon Valley” mission (Sept. 23-27).
How many years has it been going?
This is the fifth edition of SEC2SV, that includes the Scaleup Summit in San Francisco format for the first time. In the previous SEC2SV editions we would host the European Innovation Day – a one-day flagship event – at the Computer History Museum.
What was the inspiration to start it?
SEC2SV was born in 2014 to make Europe and the US (read Silicon Valley) ecosystems meet and touch base about the state-of-the-art innovation across the pond.
The idea was, on the one hand, that policy makers, entrepreneurs, corporates, scaleups, and investors from Europe could learn from the experience and know-how heritage of the most advanced innovation ecosystem in the world in order to approach new markets and new needs. On the other hand, stakeholders from the US could discover in advance the routes policy makers of the European Union were tracing towards the big topics (economy, justice, growth, regulation, environment, etc.) and understand how to cooperate in a unique, coherent and worldwide perspective.
The mission has grown fast in the past years, hosting an annual event (the EID-European Innovation Day) bringing together the most relevant founders, professionals, and policy makers from the EU entrepreneurial ecosystem and Silicon Valley in engaging meetings and workshops with the goal of forging meaningful long term relationships.
This year the “Scaleup Summit” has become the natural evolution of the EID, becoming the premier event of the whole mission: a highly curated, invitation only, 2-days format periodically hosted by the most prestigious International Stock Exchanges (other editions include: Tel Aviv, Milan, London, Budapest, Stuttgart, Madrid) where international corporates, investors and scaleups operating in specific verticals can be involved in matching activities, do business and spot technology trends.
What opportunities are on offer for those attending?
The Summits provide qualified opportunities for scaleups to initiate commercial and strategic opportunities with senior corporate decision makers, extend their rolodex by adding international investors, assess IPO and private placement options together with specialists from the Stock Exchange, in addition to high-quality networking and benchmarking with peers and innovation leaders.
On the other hand, corporates can meet the most interesting international startups/scaleups in a 1:1 setting and find “ready to be deployed” solutions to innovate their business, beyond getting data and benchmarks.
The results: three deals have been announced at the opening of the last Scaleup Summit in Milan and they were made out of conversations started one year before during the previous edition of the event.
Who will be speaking?
The grand opening will include a C-Level speaker from NASDAQ followed by a Keynote speaker we will unveil in the upcoming weeks. Representatives from specific vertical markets will also be presenting the innovative areas they’re scouting projects for. The Summit will be focused above all on 1:1 meetings and vertical deep dives alongside with investor/CV panel and more.
What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?
First of all we suggest to check the 2019 “challenges” and verticals that specific corporates will be presenting in order to find innovative solutions. At the moment these will cover: Health and Circular Cities, Smart Cities, E-Mobility, Decarbonization, Digital Construction, and Travel Tech.
Once you’ve realized you’re the right player in the right place, we strongly recommend you to schedule all your meetings in advance, whether you’re a scaleup, a corporate, or an investor, through the networking software we offer to facilitate 1-to-1 meetings.
How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?
The participation in the Summit is by invitation only. Corporates, Investors and Scaleups interested in joining can check the information here http://ow.ly/sZQO50vofdz and contact [email protected].
