The Digital Hub, Ireland’s largest cluster of digital media, technology and internet businesses, today launches RESONATE, a three-screen video installation that delves into the experiences and influences of a group of electronic music producers and DJs. The exhibit, which will be open to the public from Friday 9th November, was developed by emerging artist Riona Long. Riona, who is a recent graduate of the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown, is a video artist and motion graphics designer.

By combining interviews, live footage and generated digital graphics, this installation vividly illustrates the raw emotion and sense of community that electronic music has the power to induce in both listener and creator.  By doing so, it suggests that electronic music culture provides a marker for how we resolve our contemporary anxieties around technology.  Riona Long will open the exhibition with an artist talk during which she will discuss the inspiration, motivation and ideas around the piece.  RESONATE will remain on display to the public until 17th November.

Fiach Mac Conghail, Chief Executive Officer at The Digital Hub said: “The Digital Hub is an ideal place in which to showcase digital art.  RESONATE explores the cultural influence of electronic music and this work was exhibited at the end-of-year showcase at the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown last May.  The Digital Hub is proud to showcase the work of emerging young artists, like Riona, and we hope companies from The Digital Hub, members of the local community and students from NCAD and the BIMM Institute Dublin will have an opportunity to visit while it is open to the public.”

Commenting on the inspiration for RESONATE, artist Riona Long said: “The idea stemmed from wanting to express the emotional power of electronic music.  Visually, I wanted the installation to feel as immersive, emotive and diverse as this music itself is.  The aim was to create something that went past the amazing technology and club culture and delve into the human aspect, to explore how producers and listeners alike are emotionally connected and influenced by sounds generated by machines.”  She continued: “The concept itself could not have been better supported by the incredible insights from the four Irish DJs and producers involved, who truly understand and related to where my heart was with this project.  I’m particularly grateful to The Digital Hub for the opportunity to share this with a wider audience and their enthusiasm for the visual arts.”

RESONATE builds on the ongoing work of The Digital Hub to provide an intersection between innovation, art and technology to the benefit of enterprises at The Digital Hub and the residents of the Liberties Community.  Other recent arts initiatives undertaken by The Digital Hub include: The Liber8 Music Project in partnership with the BIMM Institute Dublin, a free outdoor music and film event as part of Culture Night and the launch of a digital art exhibition by artist Robin Price titled ‘This is not a table.’
