If you think that you can only go green in your personal time, you are mistaken. The concept of sustainable growth can be applied to all walks of life, including at your workplace. Irrespective of the industry you are in, it is possible to become more eco-friendly.

Since climate change and global warming has become a major issue around the world, everyone has to lend a hand to make small changes. Even a simple change can make much difference to the future generation. If you are intending to do something good for the planet, here are some of the easy ways to help you go green in the workplace –

Choose an Eco-Friendly Way to Commute

Instead of driving your car every day to work, you can use public transport to get to work. It will not only be good for the environment but help you save money on the gas. If you are not comfortable in public transport, you can set up carpool in your area that would benefit everyone who has to arrive at the same place. If you already know of any such carpool, you should join them. If you live close to your workplace, you can always walk.

Use Reusable Water Bottles and Mugs

One of the major components at landfills is disposable water bottles, and it hurts the environment. You can use reusable bottles that can help you save money; you will not have to drink any residue that is often found in disposable plastic bottles. For drinking coffee or tea, you can have your own personalized cup at the workplace to use.

Use Energy Saving Lights

There is no doubt that the office where you and other work should be well lit. However, an eco-friendly way of lighting the office is by using LED lights that help conserve energy. These can cost a little more than the usual light bulbs; they not only work for longer but also saves you money on energy bills.

Be Conscious of How Much You Print

It is essential to use printers that allow you to print on both sides of the paper. Even if you are using one side of the paper, it is a good idea to use the other side for taking notes or something. You also need to learn how to fax electronically rather than having to take out a print out every time you need to fax.

Avoid Throwing Away Gently Used Materials

Instead of throwing away gently used items such as folders, books, or equipment, you can always donate it to those who can use them. When upgrading pieces of equipment, you can find someone who can use the equipment you no longer need. Many of us do not realize that what we are trashing might be of value to others.

Use Printed Files with Co-workers

Instead of taking out copies of the same important papers to be distributed among the co-workers, it is a good idea to go paperless and send them digitalized files. Everyone can read the file on their computers and share their thoughts on it in the meetings.

Use Eco-Friendly Office Supplies

When purchasing office supplies, it is a good idea to look for eco-friendly office supplies. You can find a lot of suppliers in the market that sells eco-friendly office supplies. It is one of the ways you are able to preserve trees and natural resources.

Turn Devices Off When Not in Use

If you think that putting your computers on standby will consume less energy, then you are mistaken. Computers on standby mode will use energy. Thus, it is a good practice to turn off computers and laptops when leaving the office.

Go Green And Make Recycling Part of Your Company

Use recycle bin in your office and ensure that everyone uses it. You can spread work around about the installation of the recycle bin and put in somewhere where everyone will have a clear view of it so that it is easier for people to use.

Just thinking of implementing the above tips at the workplace will not help if everyone is not on the same page. You need to educate others on the benefits of going green. It is essential to be mindful of your habits if you want to go completely green. Switching off bad habits can help you save the environment and also encourage others to do the same.
