What is your background briefly?
Background of sales, innovation, and money. As far as culturally and ethnically, an overachieving white guy from the middle of Africa chasing the dream.

Does it seem like a logical background on what you do now?
Logic is a subjective term because I believe anything is only logical once success has been proven.
Nobody can see the future. So, I do not think anyone logically reaches somewhere without struggle, and once achieving it, then it becomes logical.
1 min pitch for what you are doing now.
I do not need a minute. Honestly speaking, I am creating change. My current scope is anything that has to do with light. I am doing things that have never been done before.
How have the last 12 months been for Lume?
Better, in fact 2 times than the prior 12 months which is phenomenal as a start-up being profitable in the first quarter and then utilizing those profits continuously to scale. 12 months was the period of scale up. “Be good company, be good to your customers, and create good products.” has been constant drive to stay on the cutting edge of the industry, and continue to animate and fix problems.
What are your plans moving forward?
You’d have to sign an NDA 😉
What tips would you have for other starting out?
There is an old adage “Be careful what you wish for”. So be prepared for the result on both failure and success. Believe in yourself, because if you don’t you will win nothing. Follow what it is you want to do. If you have enough passion and drive and belief, nothing can stop you. Endure more than others. Endure means to do more than a person that is trying to take away what you are trying to do. In order to be a start-up, you do not have enough resource or finance, in our instance, if we want to step into the realm of major software or hardware companies like Apple, Google, or Gopro; we have to work twice as hard, so be prepared to work and believe in yourself through that process.
Looking back, is there anything that you would have done differently?
Not a thing. If you look back and waste time trying to understand what you should have done better, you do not get it. Do not be an entrepreneur if that is the way you think. You need to learn second by second basis, learn from others mistakes, and learn from your mistakes. Also, you need to always move forward, if you regret anything, that is a wasted minute.

Where can people see footage captured with Lume devices? What would you share some of the top images that you like?
There are tons of them. Jamie O’Brien has been creating not only incredible surfing and adrenaline-like contents for us. The groups he works with are amazing artists, and what they create for us is beautiful. So I would definitely say a lot of stuffs Jamie O’Brien creates for us is amazing.
Lives of customers, my actual users, are being literally changed. When I look on their instagram and see the transformation of photography, it blows my mind. I am humbled and appreciative everyday to see the photography. Photography as a whole, Lume Cube at least for me, definitely changed my life and seems to be changing a lot of others.
What is the coolest experience you’ve had with Lume Cube?
It continues everyday. Seeing people around me grow, seeing them win, and seeing us create our space are really exciting, we have created something that nobody has ever done before. Everyday is an amazing experience.
Personal favorite use of Lume Cube?
It really coordinates to our tagline: the world’s most versatile light, it just performs so well and so many different places, that it is so hard to choose a favorite. Seeing drone users light-paint the sky with Lume Cubes has to be one of the coolest, and most unintended uses of the Lume Cube. A little idea that has inspired actual art, marketing, and beauty that has been shared around this world is truly remarkable.
Tell us about the Switzerland trip?
Switzerland trip came by a little bit of accident, my friend and I were in Amsterdam for the international broadcasting conference. In between, we went to Interlaken, European center of Adrenaline sports, and met employees from Alpin Raft, who invited us to bring our lights along for some night-time adventures. Look for the video.
Through the last 12 months, we collectively contributed to the dream, and the past month has been hectic trying to make the dream come true.
