Hack the human – the psychology of cyber fraud, Professor Mary Aiken

Bank of Ireland, has launched their anti-smishing campaign to mark the start of International Fraud Awareness Week, which takes place from the 14th to the 19th of November. The main purpose of this campaign is to bring awareness to the dangers of smishing, calling for people to ‘Stop. Think. Check’ before opening any suspicious text messages that may be fraudulent. Supporting this campaign is Professor Mary Aiken , who will act as an ambassador. Ronan talks to Professor Mary Aiken.

Bank of Ireland has launched a new Text-Checker service that verify’s if text messages are legitimate has been launched for their customers. The new Text-Checker service coincides with the revelation that fraudsters are targeting the Irish population with increasing frequency.

A Red C survey revealed that 74% of adults surveyed have received fraudulent text messages that appeared to be from their bank, an increase of 37% on 2021 figures. 43% of adults surveyed have received a fraudulent telephone call from a fraudster saying they were from their bank, an increase of 25% on 2021  and 52% have received a fraudulent email, an increase of 8% on 2021.
