Provizio’s CEO & Founder, Barry Lunn
Provizio, the leading vehicle perception company, has unveiled VizioR&I™, the world’s first imaging radar embedded with industry-leading accelerated compute, delivering groundbreaking on-the-edge perception capabilities. This breakthrough technology sets a new benchmark in precision, resolution and real-time all-weather perception capabilities, supporting the development of autonomous and safety-focused systems across a range of applications.
Founded by veterans from the automotive and aerospace sectors, Provizio is on a mission to make mobility safer and more intelligent through affordable, advanced perception imaging radar that works reliably in all-weather conditions. Dedicated to enable scalable advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving solutions, Provizio has developed the future of radar in VizioR&I, a revolutionary radar system with robust perception capabilities that outperforms existing state-of-the-art radars on the market and that complements camera technologies.
The VizioR&I platform achieves this through a unique combination of proprietary hardware and advanced perception software, which includes the automotive-grade NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin system-on-a-chip (SoC), which runs NVIDIA DriveOS, the safety-certified operating system for a functionally safe experience. By integrating the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX platform, VizioR&I consolidates – as never-seen-before in the industry – complex perception tasks, which are typically handled by multiple high-power external processing systems, into a single, compact device.
This enables significant reduction in size, weight, power, and cost optimisations, allowing for seamless, plug-and-play integration in a wide variety of environments. As an approved NVIDIA DRIVE ecosystem partner and NVIDIA Inception member, VizioR&I radar technology is a future-proof, tailored and scalable solution designed to support various industries, from automotive and agriculture to mining and smart cities.
Commenting on the announcement, Eamonn Lunn, Research & Industrial Business Development at Provizio, said: “VizioR&I signifies a totally new era for perception technology, not just for radars, but across the board – including LiDAR and cameras. Our goal at Provizio since day one is to lead the industry on a clear path to ubiquitous, safe and scalable autonomous driving. VizioR&I is a key step to ensuring radar is part of that journey, offering an out of the box perception solution that’s both more powerful and accessible than what’s currently on the market.”
The technical capabilities that VizioR&I offers set it apart in the field of radar technology. Delivering high-resolution 3D point clouds, it enables robust object detection and classification at ranges of up to 600 metres, ensuring precise perception in complex environments. Its radar odometry provides accurate localisation in GPS-denied conditions, while real-time radar freespace mapping enhances navigation in low-visibility or adverse weather.
With a microservices architecture, VizioR&I supports independent updates and over-the-air (OTA) functionality, allowing continuous improvements and customisation. Multi-sensor compatibility enables seamless synchronisation with other sensors, providing comprehensive perception through radar and image data fusion.
Combining power, flexibility, and ease of integration, VizioR&I is designed to meet the needs of any customers. Its plug-and-play design, compatible with a wide variety of applications such as User Datagram Protocol, Data Distribution Service, and Robot Operating System, ensures straightforward testing and integration into existing systems.
