Privacy & Data Protection Law in Ireland, 2nd Edition

Last night I attended the launch of Privacy & Data Protection Law in Ireland, 2nd Edition by Denis Kelleher which was launched by launched by Patrick Honohan, the Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland. The first edition was published in 2006 and Denis remarked that a lot has happened since then. Denis is right a lot has happened since 2006, as we have seen the rapid growth of the internet, like big data, social networking and a whole variety of smart phone apps that are built to process personal data.

In the second edition of Privacy and Data Protection Law, you are provided with step by step guides on how to handle data breaches, access requests, objections and requests for rectification. The second edition also covers relevant Irish legislation in particular the Communications (Retention of Data) Act 2011 and the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010.

Recent legislative developments in Europe are detailed along with relevant court judgements and decisions of the Data Protection Commissioner. The EU Commission’s proposals for Data Protection Regulation in the civil sphere, and also a Data Protection Directive for the criminal sphere is explained and analysed.
