Preview: StartUp Ballymun get-together, November 2018

Funded by Dublin City Council the StartUp Ballymun get-together is back on 21 November, with a special focus on the business owners of Dublin. Adding an extra dimension this time we have joined the Techstars backed StartUpWeek Dublin which runs from the 19 to 23 November.

What is it all about?
Well, the objective of StartUp Ballymun is to promote enterprise and business opportunities in Ballymun and nearby north Dublin. Our aims are to
– encourage people living in Ballymun and nearby to become self-employed
– increase the business profile of Ballymun
– and welcome businesses from elsewhere to locate in Ballymun

How?
Two events are held each year, in April and October/November, where individuals in startups and businesses are invited to network, access free business mentoring, gain information about services to business – and meet and listen to a panel of small business owners with stories to tell, our panel of entrepreneurs.

“We present a group of business people all united under the theme of starting and growing a business in Dublin” says Liam Barry of DCC. “This is the sixth in the series of free StartUp Ballymun events. These entrepreneurs will tell the audience how they sought independence through self-employment, realised their ambitions and how they face their everyday challenges.

The panel of entrepreneurs
On 21 November, our panel will feature Jeanne Mahony, co-founder of a northside brewery, Hope Beer brewed and bottled in Dublin (Howth Junction). Marie-Clare Byard of Now Media – live content creation experts, & based in the Ballymun Innovation Hub. Adeola Ogunsina of On-site Refueling diesel direct to your fleet, fuelling fleet trucks when they were not in use with a main depot in Dublin 15. Simon Gell of Simon’s Fish Products located in Finglas, supplying multiple outlets in Dublin with gourmet ready-to-go seafood. Paul McClatchie of Engage People winners of the best new agency in the 2017 Recruitment Industry Awards. And there are more speakers to announce.

26 special business owners have shared their growth stories at our previous events; Irish Biltong, CheckitsReal, the Paddy Box, Obeo, iCabbi, Olytico, Smarter Surfaces, Hairweavon, the Irish Rugby Institute, Lo-cal Kitchen, Oiishi Foods, Travelling Languages, Be Well Physio, Kick Start Movements, Blossom Ireland, Event Junkies, Irish Tech News, the Dublin Cookie Company, Just Fetch It, FindaVenue, Guardian Safety, Sound Advice, Workjuggle, Grand Designs, EVB Sport and Sam Kelly the @tweetinggoddess. The twice yearly events are organised by Liam Barry (Economic Development Officer, Ballymun, Dublin City Council) and Billy Linehan (Celtar business consultants).
