PixelCable – World’s First App Controlled Fast Charging Cable with Smart Display

The Pixel cable is an App controlled fast charging cable that includes an OLED screen to provide information on things like charging speeds, data transfer and customisable animations.

The PixelCable is launching on Kickstarter today and we were sent a pre-launch unit ahead of time to check out.

USB-C

USB-C was supposed to make our lives easy. It would replace all the different cables that were in use and unify them all into one connection that would work on any device. While the USB-C connection is certainly an improvement, the number of different charging standards and data transfer classes with USB-C have made it very confusing for many consumers.

On top of this, there are so many different charging adapters on the market now that it is really difficult to keep up with what works with your device and what doesn’t. Ever plugged your phone or tablet into a fancy looking charger and found it took longer than you thought? This happens when the device is not compatible with the charging standard and it defaults to the slowest possible charge speed.

So how does PixelCable Help?

When it comes to charging speeds, rather than having to go figure out what chargers can do what, the display on the PixelCable will show you information on what speed your device is charging if it is fast charging or not. This works with any device you plus the PixelCable into. The cable supports up to 100-watt charging which basically means it will be able to charge just about any device you may have.

In addition to this, you can pair the device via Bluetooth to your phone for example and this then opens up more possibilities via an App called QCharger.

Once paired you can set up alerts within the App to notify you once the device is charged to avoid overcharging and you can also set up an alert if charging gets interrupted for some reason. The OLED also displays shows how full the battery is on the device you are charging.

The App also allows you to customise the animations which appear on the device and you can also use it to display messages on the device. Once connected to the App, the PixelCable will also update its firmware automatically.

During our time testing the PixelCable I have found it really useful with some of our devices have larger batteries and are picky with which charging standard they work with. Previously you would have to plug them in, go off for a while and come back to check how it was going. If you forgot and came back to find it charging slowly it can be a pain. With the PixelCable you can check straight away if the device is charging quickly.

The PixelCable is also made to last. It has a tough outer sheathing and is designed not to bend. I can’t tell you how many cables we throw out here every day after someone yanks one by accident.

PixelCable Availability

The PixelCable comes in both a USB-C version and a lightning version which will work with Apple devices.

The campaign is going live today on Kickstarter. Please visit this page to find out more about the different options available to back.
