Pete Lomas to Keynote at International Showcase for Kids’ Creative Tech Projects

Co-creator of the Raspberry Pi computer, Pete Lomas, will be the keynote speaker at Coolest Projects International 2018 in the RDS Simmonscourt, Dublin, on Saturday 26 May 2018. In his talk, Cardboard to Code in Space, he will share how he went from school misfit to joint recipient of the UK’s most prestigious prize for engineering innovation, the MacRobert Award.

Coolest Projects is a world-leading showcase that empowers and inspires the next generation of digital creators and innovators.  We will see 1000 young people from across Ireland and 14 additional countries including Argentina, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, and Japan showcase the projects that they created at their local CoderDojo, Code Club and Raspberry Jam clubs. These include useful apps, personalised websites, interactive games, and impressive hardware projects. This innovation-filled event, is aiming to be bigger and better than ever before, with more than 10,000 people expected to attend.

Projects being showcased on the day include one 12-year-old girl’s project to help children suffering from nightmares, or the 13-year-old boy who entered the evolution category with his door recognition system to help support elderly people living alone. European Digital Girls of the year; Zara, Ruby and Aoibheann will also be demonstrating their tech ideas on the day!

The event seeks to inspire educators, engage parents and celebrate creativity through panel discussions, hands-on activities, demonstrations and workshops. Lively panels with leading edtech and industry experts will debate the role of technology in education, and how we can empower girls in the sector. Examples of activities young and old can participate in on the day include STEM escape rooms, flying drones, testing out VR headsets, creating wearable technology pieces and a giant circuit board puzzle!
