What is your background briefly?
I have been a business owner for about 10 years now as a digital marketer. I fell in love with social media (particularly Twitter then) and I saw the huge potential for businesses so I very quickly decided to do something about it. Now I’m one of the top women social media influencers, and speaking at such an amazing conference, Women’s Inspire Network.
What will you be speaking about at the conference?
As I mentioned earlier I’ve loved Twitter since the first time I tried it, and still do. Over time I managed to meet some amazing people on Twitter and found great business opportunities, so I thought I’d share the secret on how to build awesome relationships on Twitter – and the tools that you need in order to do that.
Why will it be a good event to attend?
I think we live in some great times, when women finally have their say in the business world, and this conference will be gathering some of the best women leaders under one roof. Not only will there be some great talks and workshops, but it’s also an amazing networking opportunity, and I for one am very excited to meet some of the women attending.
How has Twitter helped you grow your business?
Twitter has helped me immensely over the years, in more than just a few ways. With Twitter behind me, I’ve managed to become an internationally known social influencer, which in turn led to even more opportunities, like speaking at events worldwide and getting new clients. It’s also helped me keep a constant stream of traffic to my website and blog, helped me make connections with other influencers, and helped me find clients directly on Twitter.
What Social media trends are you excited about at the moment?
I think the biggest trend right now in social media is video – everyone is doing video, all of the big social networks have some sort of video function, and I have to say it’s a very exciting movement, because it brings a lot of opportunities. We’re clearly moving towards very visual social networks; Instagram and Snapchat are some of the biggest right now, and the ‘giants’, Twitter and Facebook are going in the same direction in order to keep up.
Who do you follow for your inspiration and insights?
To be completely honest, I have a huge list of publications and websites that I’ve got in my daily feed. There’s simply too many to name them all, but a few of them are The Next Web, Mashable and Tech Crunch.
You mention persistence as an important attribute for success in your article (8 attributes of successful people) – do you have a good example of when this worked for you?
Well, to be honest, my entire professional life really. Being a business owner, especially the times when I’ve been on my own, without persistence I might’ve folded a long time ago. Being an entrepreneur usually involved a lot of roadblocks, and some of them seem insurmountable. One moment does come to mind, when I had been hospitalized, and the stress of doing all of this got to me for a bit – but, as soon as I was well enough, I got back to work, and I’m very happy about that now, as I feel like I’m in a better place in my professional life now than I’ve ever been.
We can be online 24/7, how do you manage your work life balance?
It’s definitely not easy, that’s for sure. Especially in the beginning, when I also had a small child at home while trying to build a business from the ground up. Thankfully I can work from home from time to time, so that definitely helped. I also have access to tools that help me be more productive and efficient, and most importantly, I have people that I trust helping me.
Anything else we should have asked you / you’d like to add?
I think we’ve both done a pretty good job so far! I just want to say I’m really excited about the conference and I’m looking forward to meeting as many great people as possible there.
