2013 turned out to be another horrible year for the PC industry with shipments dropping 10% year on year. In fact, this was the biggest yearly decline since Gartner starting tracking the PC industry in the late 1980’s with shipments now back to 2009 levels.
Smartphones and tablets are continuing to eat into sales of laptops and PC’s. Tablets have now got to the stage where they offer a realistic alternative to a computer for many people. The reasons to have a less portable, more expensive and power hungry PC at home are lessening for the average consumer but business demand is still enough for now to keep the PC market alive.
