This October will see the Women in Tech Awards return to the RDS for its second year. The widely successful inaugural event brought women from all across Ireland’s tech community together for a fantastic evening with an electric atmosphere

Entries are free so why not nominate someone you know for this year’s event?

This event initially stemmed from the women in tech programme launched at Dublin Tech Summit in 2017 where efforts were made – through means of mentoring events – to close the gender gap in the male-dominated tech world and make technology a more inclusive industry to be a part of.

Gender is only a part of the issue however when it comes to inclusion in the tech world. In a bid to put more of a focus into diversity, three new categories have been added to this year’s ceremony; Diversity Role Model, HR Diversity Initiative and Diverse Company of the Year.

As well as the 14 categories, there are two special recognition awards; the Women in Tech Initiative recognises one not-for-profit organisation that has demonstrated exceptional initiative to promote women in tech. Last year, this went to Women ReBOOT, an initiative aimed at helping women return to the workforce after extended leave.

The Grace Hopper Award recognises a female STEM professional, whose exceptional achievements and outstanding contributions have made a lasting impact on technology, society, and their profession. In 2018, this was awarded to the inspiring Brenda Romero of Romero games who ended the ceremony with a standing ovation after taking the audience from tears to laughter with her acceptance speech.

It’s free to nominate for these awards and people can nominate as many women for as many categories as they see fit. Check out the criteria and get your nominations in now for this year’s awards!
