Nexus 5 official

As it seems with every product launch these days, the leaks pretty much told us all. Google, finally, officially unveiled the Nexus 5 to the world today. The device will go on sale later today in the Play Store, initially available in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan and Korea (and coming soon to India), so still no love for Ireland. It will cost $349 for the 16GB version and $399 for the 32GB version.

It will of course ship with Android 4.4 and include the same voice capabilities as the Moto X allowing the user to wake the phone up and perform actions such as web searches or sending messages via voice commands. The phone also has LTE support.

Here are the specs:

  • Display: 4.95” 1920×1080 HD Display (445 ppi)
  • CPU: 2.26 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800
  • GPU: Adreno 330
  • Rear Camera: 8.0MP with Optical Image Stabilization
  • Front Camera: 1.3MP
  • Storage: 16 GB or 32 GB internal storage/ No user expansion
  • RAM: 2GB
  • WiFi: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
  • Battery: 2300mAh

It’s certainly an impressive phone at its price point but we will have to wait and see if it makes its way to Ireland officially. Google has said that the phone will be offered on compatible networks and from certain retailers. At the moment the only details on that are for the U.S.

As we hear more from the Irish networks we’ll update accordingly.
