A new social initiative has been launched to help consumers convert their loyalty card rewards from retailers into meals to help in the fight against world hunger.

To find out more about this initiative, we spoke with Stampify CEO, Conor Leen.

Can you explain to our readers what Stampify is?

Stampify is a social initiative that allows users to donate meals to help fight world hunger by completing a Stampify loyalty card with loyalty stamps from partner businesses.

What motivated you set up this initiative?

I was motivated to set up this initiative in my third year of university. I was doing an internship and was in quite late one evening, so on my way home decided to purchase a burrito. When I was about to pay I noticed I had a completed loyalty card, so was able to get the burrito for free.

When cycling home I saw a homeless man on the side of the road and began to think about what had happened. I had received a burrito for free through a loyalty system that I didn’t need or appreciate, and not to make assumptions, but this man could probably have done with it more.

This got me thinking about the inequality of the situation and how the dynamic might be used to do some good.

After college, I had always wanted to do something entrepreneurial, and this idea of using a loyalty card for greater good had stuck in my mind, so I decided to work on Stampify.

Tell me about the team behind it?

There are 5 members of our team, each studied business in Trinity College. We now currently work in Google, Deloitte, Paddy Power and Lidl full time, none of us receive any compensation for Stampify. We had worked together a lot in university and had always gotten on well, so decided to continue after college.

Explain how the process works for consumers?

Users can pick up a Stampify card at any of our partners. From there they can mix and match stamps from partners to complete the card, before returning it to any of them.

For every completed card our partners will make a donation to feed a child for a week in their place of education in the developing world.

How many retailers have you signed up to this so far?

We have 15 partners to date, mainly made up of coffee shops in Dublin.

Tell me some more about Mary’s Meals and the work they undertake?

Mary’s Meals are a UK charity with an Irish branch, whose focus is to provide meals to children in their place of education in the developing world.

They believe in providing children with the education to escape poverty and work with 80,000 volunteers in 17 countries across the developing world.

What are your long term goals for Stampify?

Long term, we want to become a boutique CSR company. What I mean by that is that our loyalty card is the start of this journey. We want to launch new products that help businesses reduce their cost or increase their revenue while supporting causes their customers care about.

How can consumers and retailers find out more about this great initiative?
