New President and Chief Executive Officer for RIM

Research in Motion, the makers of BlackBerry have appointed a new CEO. Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie the former Co-CEO’s have stepped aside for Thorsten Heins to become head of the company. Heins  joined RIM in 2007 initially as Senior Vice President for Hardware Engineering and later (2011) became Chief Operating Officer for Product and Sales. Inverstors have been clamoring for change at the top of the company for some time now so it’ll be interesting to see if this will satisfy the markets enough. This year is a make or break year for RIM with the launch of BB10, in the 3rd or 4th quarter, to try and regain some lost market share from Android and iOS. Heins gave his first brief interview yesterday and you can see it below. BlackBerry is currently trading at 17USD in pre market trading today. Full press release here:
