New innovations in Advanced Liquid Cooling solutions for AI infrastructure

Echelon Data Centres, the Irish-headquartered hyperscale data centre owner, developer and operator, has entered into a strategic collaboration agreement with Trinovium, a subsidiary of Trinity Biotech plc (NASDAQ: TRIB), to develop next-generation liquid cooling solutions for AI and high-density computing environments.

The collaboration comes as the rapid growth of AI drives increasing computing and power densities within data centres, creating new requirements for the infrastructure needed to manage the heat generated by increasingly powerful hardware.

New Liquid Cooling solutions for AI infrastructure

The global data centre liquid cooling market is projected to grow from approximately $4bn in 2026 to $27bn by 2033[1], as operators and technology companies respond to these changing requirements.

As liquid cooling becomes more widely deployed, the quality and condition of the coolant itself also becomes increasingly important. At higher temperatures and operating demands, factors such as corrosion, particulate contamination, fluid degradation and microbial growth can have implications for system reliability and uptime.

The collaboration brings together Echelon’s experience in designing, developing and operating hyperscale data centre infrastructure with Trinovium’s expertise in high-purity fluid manufacturing and analytical technologies.

Under the agreement, the companies will work together to develop and refine advanced liquid cooling technologies, informed by the requirements of the hyperscale and AI infrastructure Echelon is developing across its portfolio.

Echelon is developing one of Europe’s largest hyperscale data centre portfolios, with more than 700MW currently in development and more than 1.4GW of secured capacity across Ireland, the UK, Italy and other strategic markets.
Trinovium was established to apply Trinity Biotech’s experience in healthcare-grade fluid manufacturing to AI infrastructure. Its initial direct-to-chip liquid cooling formulation has been designed around three core performance requirements and relevant Open Compute Project guidelines:
Ultra-high-purity, highly stable aqueous chemistry
Corrosion inhibition and coolant system protection
Healthcare-level consistency and traceability.

Alongside the cooling fluid, Trinovium is developing a fluid health and system intelligence platform drawing on Trinity Biotech’s analytical technology portfolio, including connected electrochemical sensing and mass spectrometry.

The platform is being designed to monitor corrosion and scaling, particulate contamination, and microbial growth and biofilm formation, providing greater insight into the condition and performance of liquid cooling systems.

Development activities are expected to commence imminently, with initial focus areas including direct-to-chip cooling fluids, thermal management systems and modular liquid cooling solutions optimised for AI and high-performance computing deployments.
