New Digital Hub in Galway Granted €60,000 Investment

The Board of Údarás na Gaeltachta has recently approved an investment of €62,000 to develop a digital hub on Inis Meáin, County Galway.

The investment is for the provision of the new Community and Enterprise Centre currently being developed on the island and the growth of the gteic network, the digital Gaeltacht network.

Funding Agency

The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media is the main funding agency of this new Community Centre.

The centre will have five hotdesks/ shared space desks outset and users of gteic@Inis Meáin will have the opportunity to avail of other services provided in the building such as meeting rooms, canteen, reception desk, and shared spaces.

Gteic@Inis Meáin will be designed to serve the community and businesses, to promote remote working options on the island.

The center will help to facilitate entrepreneurs in various sectors and will be available for training, research and development projects.

The local community development organisation, Comhlacht Forbartha Inis Meáin Teo., will be responsible for the management and running of the hub under an agreement with Údarás na Gaeltachta.

Gteic Gréasán Digiteach na Gaeltachta is a network of 31 innovation and digital hubs to be built by Údarás na Gaeltachta throughout Ireland’s Gaelteacht Area.

Vibrant Hub

The digital hubs will provide a vibrant connection of high-speed broadband facilities in rural Gaelteacht locations to motivate and stimulate job creation.

In addition to this, it will assist remote working, encourage and enable the return of Diaspóra na Gaeltachta, facilitate concept development, new businesses and grow to drive Gaelteacht creativity and innovation.

There are 16 gteic hubs open throughout the Gaeltacht, four of which are in Galway.
