The Board of the Digital Hub Development Agency (DHDA) has today announced the appointment of Fiach Mac Conghail to the position of Chief Executive Officer. Fiach is currently Director and CEO of the Abbey Theatre, and was a Senator from 2011 to 2016. He will take up his position in October.
Gerry Macken, who has been on secondment from Dublin City Council, will continue as Interim CEO until Fiach takes up the position, and will then return to a senior role in the Council.
The DHDA is the State agency charged with managing and developing The Digital Hub cluster, with the aim of creating an international centre of excellence for digital content and technology enterprises. The Digital Hub is located in Dublin’s south-west inner city, in the historic Liberties area. It is currently home to almost 100 established digital businesses, employing just over 700 people.
Announcing Mr. Mac Conghail’s appointment, Paul Holden, Chairperson of the Board of the DHDA, said: “On behalf of the staff, clients and Board of the Digital Hub Development Agency, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Fiach Mac Conghail to the position of CEO. Fiach will bring a wealth of experience, expertise and energy to the role which will be of major benefit to the Agency. He joins us at an exciting time of development and growth, and we look forward to working with him in the months and years ahead, which are full of both challenges and opportunities. Fiach will play a key role in delivering our strategy to develop the enterprise cluster in ways that benefit society and the economy, both locally and nationally.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the immense contribution made by our Interim CEO, Gerry Macken, whose efforts have played a critical role in consolidating The Digital Hub’s position as the country’s leading high tech community, and in initiating a number of projects that have laid a solid foundation for its future success. Together with the Board, I want to thank Gerry for stepping into the Interim role, and wish him the very best with his future endeavours.”
Denis Naughten T.D., Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, welcomed the announcement of the appointment of Fiach Mac Conghail as CEO. “The Digital Hub Development Agency has an important role to play in supporting and developing an enterprise-focused economy. Fiach joins the Digital Hub at an exciting time of challenge, change and opportunity, and I wish him every success in his new role. I would also like to acknowledge and thank Gerry Macken for his contribution during his tenure as interim CEO”.
Commenting on his appointment, Fiach Mac Conghail said: “I’m delighted to be appointed CEO of The Digital Hub Development Agency (DHDA) and to continue to build on the success of this imaginative project. Supporting creativity and encouraging the imagination of others has been a constant passion and value in my professional career to date and this new role will enable me to continue with this passion. I’m looking forward to collaborating with the extraordinary and innovative digital media and technology companies in The Digital Hub. Helping to shape Ireland’s Digital Future and working with the vibrant and diverse communities of Dublin 8 was also a compelling reason for me to join The Digital Hub and I’m ready for this exciting new challenge.”
