nearForm presents Node Week – April 10th to 14th

Are you interested in Node.js? If so, nearForm are presenting a week long series of talks brought to you by members of the Node.js community.

To find out more about the event and why you should take part, we spoke with nearForm CEO Cian Ó Maidín:

When does Node Week take place?

Node Week is a week-long series of online talks taking place from the 10th – 14th April.

What was the inspiration to start it?

We organise various events throughout the year, from meet-ups to conferences, and we see the benefit that people can get from attending. However, we wanted to try out a format that enabled us to reach people on a different medium, or who sometimes find it hard to get to events; to increase the overall reach of the event. So we thought, “If you’re going to host some webinars, why not host a week of them!”.

This event is unique in the fact that it is being delivered completely via webinars. Can you tell us more about this format and what people can expect?

Our aim is to host 2 webinars each day at 2pm and 4pm GMT. Each talk will run for around 30 minutes with some Q&A afterwards. 30 minute for a talk seems to be just the sweet spot for content like this and is not all that different from an in-person presentation, however delivery by webinar has some distinct advantages

Like podcasts, the attendee can enjoy a better listening experience since they can tune on from the comfort of their work desk or even on the go. We have spaced the talks out over a week, with a range of topics covered, people can pick and choose what’s content relevant to them.

What other exciting things can people look forward to this year?

We have recently just announced the dates for NodeConf EU which will take place at Lyrath Estate, Kilkenny from Nov 5th – 8th. This will be our 5th year hosting the event which is the largest node.js conference of it’s kind in Europe.

After a successful NodeConf London last year, we’re delighted to announce that we will be hosting the event again this year and hope to confirm a date very shortly.

Microservices Day London is also taking place on May 25th and in Austin Texas on October 26th.

What speakers have been announced so far?

Some of the nearForm team who will be speaking are Matteo Collina, Luca Maraschi, James Snell, Colin Ihrig & David Mark Clements. Their talks will cover topics from Logging, Performance, HTTP/2 & Node Core. From Kensho we have Gleb Bahmutov, who will be showing dependency management. From Microsoft, we’ve Suz Hinton who will be covering hardware using Arduino and Node.js, and from the Node.js Foundation we’lll have Tracy Hinds, talking about the community and learning node.js.

What opportunities are on offer for people attending & what tips would you give to people to get the most out of it?

We’ve tried to make sure that we have top quality content from industry heavy leaders, content that’s current and relevant for a wide range of developers interests and skill levels. Our speakers will be giving insider knowledge from real-life experiences and lessons learned along the way. They’ll also be covering practical advice that you can put to use in your own node.js projects.

You can also keep up to date by following us on Twitter @nearForm and by the hashtag #NodeWeek.

How can people book tickets / register?

You can go directly to nodeweek.com where you can see all the speaker’s bios and the topics covered. You can register for as many webinars as you like.
