NASA Releases The Mars Rover Tech Coming To Our Cars

It’s only a matter of days before The Perseverance Rover will touch down on Mars. The SUV sized rover is being sent over to collect broken rock and soil samples and, of course, seek signs of ancient life. While we await confirmation of the landing, new research has revealed 6 technologies being developed by NASA that will evolve our cars.

The Mars Rover Tech Coming To Our Cars

Select Car Leasing have scoured NASA’s technology spinoff release and revealed 6 space technologies that are transforming driving as we know it. With their findings, they have visualised how spacecraft tech will affect your driving experience when introduced to everyday driving. You can view all visualisations on Select Car Leasing’s research page.

NASA’s Spinoff Releases Reveal 6 Space Technologies Coming Cars

The Mars Rover’s Wheels

In order for the Perseverance Rover to endure the rough terrain on it’s mission on Mars, NASA developed  tyres to utilize shape memory alloys and spring back to it’s original shape after going over irregular surfacing. What’s more, is NASA’s Superelastic Tyre is lighter than rubber tyres, safer and will never puncture. The question is, will NASA’s mission to Mars revolutionise the entire redesign of automotive tyres?

Space Shuttle Engine Repairing Nanoflakes

When forced to operate in extreme heat, it’s no secret that space shuttles are stations are subject to severe engine damage if they don’t have enough lubrication. Pavlo Rudenko, commissioned by NASA, came up with a solution to use nano flakes that form a diamond-like carbon to reverse engine damage all together. When applied to cars, it could repair even the worst engine wear and tear.

4 More NASA Technologies That Will Transform Driving:

Your car will use an AI brain to avoid collisions
Doppler lidar lasers in motors will end traffic jams
Mars Rover Technology can control autonomous fleets
CO2 sensors can monitor emissions on multilane highways
